Had a bit of a sad goodbye to my very nice hostess, she had called the taxi the day before and made sure it picked me up. The taxi driver got me to the station in good time and I waited and watched the board for 1/2 hour before they showed the "binario" or line the train would be coming in on. Almost got on the wrong one! God is so good to me, I noticed something wasn't right and sure enough it wasn't, had emerged on the wrong side... anyway alls well that ends well! made on the right train, it ended up being 18 minutes late anyway. Found Karen at the airport after texting back and forth a bit, ate lunch there before getting back on the Leonardo Express to Rome, taxied as close to the apartment as he could get us, which is Piazza Farnese. Prayed that the wheels on my suitcase would survive the cobblestones as we tried to find the apartment, passed it twice before finding it! Of course, once you find it it's easy....
The host was nice enough to carry my larger carry-on up those spiral stone stairs for me, I wasn't sure
how I was going to do it, we're up on the third floor and have 2 terraces! will get inside photos and the terraces tomorrow and post. This is a great location, plus I can't wait to have morning tea on the terraces.
Karen and I made our way to Campo di'Fiori, Piazza Navona, and into the churches mentioned above, The crowd outside of the Pantheon made getting into it almost impossible so will go another time, I think there were several tour groups all trying to funnel into it, the other times I've been it has been no problem so not sure what was so different about today. We then found a grocery store and stocked up for a couple of days, breakfast and lunches to take "on the road". Went back to the apt, unloaded our stuff and looked up the directions to Il Fico, the restaurant Jim and I found and then took the boys to on our last two trips here. I had the homemade gnocchi and Karen had spaghetti with mussels, she said hers was great and mine was too. Stopped at a pastry shop and shared a limone mousse, delicious. We'll have to get started
on the gelato when it warms up as it was getting chilly by the time we were done with dinner.
Back at the apt, had some tea, unpacked and am now catching up with the blog a bit. It's really nice having the kitchen, much more relaxing for me to be able to sit in my pj's have some tea, etc.. I feel very fortunate and blessed!! Tomorrow we are planning on going to Rome Baptist Church, it will be my 4th time, it's wonderful to worship God with other believers from 1/2 way around the world with over 40 nationalities represented. The service is in English and the Pastor is from Pendleton, Oregon, if he's the same one that has been there. Pendleton is only about 45-60 minutes from where I live! Small world...
We then have reservations to see the Domus Aurea, which is what remains of Nero's palace, they only let a few people in during the weekends as during the week they are doing restorations. Very happy we were able to get in.
Off to bed now, the fit bit says: 13,466 steps which is 5.8 miles
Hopefully, I can sleep as the street noise is very loud, will
report back later! ;-)
A Domani!
P.S. just an FYI if you want to see the photos better just click on them and they show up much larger...
