Friday. Today I decided to do a little trip outside Rome to explore the town of Frascati. I found a blog on the internet describing this easy trip out of the city so I decided to give it a go. The fact that the blog mentioned lunch which consisted of roasted pork and local wine, may just have had a hand in persuading me to venture out. The blog, which I had printed out before leaving home, gave very easy to follow instructions of how to get to Frascati. I walked the 5 minutes from the hostel to Termini train station, this is another reason I like to stay at this hostel it's very close to transport. We are here, the hotel is small and beautiful. we are on the edge of town, overlooking the skyline of Rome. The town is small, but crammed so it feels bigger. In the main piazza, there were italians playing elvis and other american music. We got wine and pizza at Cafe Peru. Ashley is sick, hope she gets better. the flight went well, i drank some wine and passed out. Well here we are in bustling Rome. Ancient monuments everywhere, delicious gelati and great pasta! Lanes and hapy people with lots of bikes and apparently 1000 traffic accidents a year! Scored with the Roma Pass - missed an hour or more of a queue to get into the Colosseum as you can get in on one side - no one tells you this but a guide touting for business said we didn't need to queue for tickets. It was amazing in there. the audio guide was really useful. We tried to go to the Vatican museum and Sistine chapel today but after walking for 5 minutes and still not finding the end of the queue we gave up. Can't stand that long! 2006 is here ! Hope all is well with you. So do tell what's new, what's happening with you.... As for me, it's time to, some what, plan the year ahead... the plan so far looks something like this: * Pack up home (rental) in Italy * Visit family and friends in England from the first of February 2006 until about the 10th (perhaps a get together in London? anyone up for it?) * Get on a plane to Cali again to visit with family, friends and see my oncologist from about 10th to end of February * Adventure really begins on first of March when we get on a plane to South America Most of you know that I've been living in Italy since August 2003! which I still find difficult to believe...anyhow.
