This account follows the tale of a young 21 year-old traveller finding herself while on the green lands of eire. Most sincere apologies for not writing sooner, it has been somewhat of an adjustment lving away from home, depsite all the comforts one could ask for. I can safely say that so far my time in Ireland has been one in which knowledge about people has be ascertained, limits tested, tastes enlarged and fitness increased. :D That first fortnight or so was spent dully looking for jobs while being discriminated against because of own surname. Kind of a wake-up call, given that my unusual ethinc background gave me somewhat of a distinction amongst my peers. But for a country that was until very recently, ethinically homogenous (while having its place in wider multicultural and well travelled ... read more

I have a lot to catch up on, and I´ve recently learned the par of a good story from the Irish, and so there´s no better place to start than with the death of two bulls. A couple weeks ago Laurel and I went to a bullfight. A traditional Spanish Intelligence versus Strength man versus beast macho elegant bullfight. If that´s what you want to think about Bullfights for the rest of your life, or if you have a weak spot for bulls, stop reading....here. Because heres what really happens. The Bull comes out into the ring, seeing light for the first time in days and already bleeding, and I´m guessing it´s not because he tripped on his way out or picked a scab or something (gross, sacha.) And there´s not one flamboyantly dressed man out ... read more

I'm assuming you're wondering where I went. Mostly, I've been living the Irish dream. And by that I mean drinking. And by that I mean I've had more to drink that someone of my height/weight should probably consume in four days, but that is Irish culture. I thought the exessive amounts of drinking was just a stereotype, it is not. Irish people like to drink, and so does Jessi, so it's been a good time. Early Monday morning Jessi met me in Dublin. She's still as funny looking as I remembered, but I decided to have pity on here. After a quick breakfast we got on the train and made it to Killarney. Killarney is a tiny town, but it's beautiful. We had no idea before, but it turns out, it's also a bit of a ... read more

We're finally in Ireland! We arrived in Dublin at 9:30am and unbelievably so did all our luggage. Yea Delta! We had too much luggage for the car we rented...must have been the bag full of shoes for "you know who". Upgraded to a Hyundai SUV Diesel...gets good mileage but sounds like a truck. We made our way cross-country and arrived in Galway around 2:30pm. Met up with Jessica and after lots of hugs and kisses, we checked into the bed and breakfast. It is a nice place overlooking Galway Bay. We have a room with a balcony that looks out over the bay. After we unpacked and freshened up, Jessica took us to the city center to see the shops and pubs. We started our pub crawl at The King's Head where I got a pint ... read more

Forgot to provide an update on the weather. It was sunny and 65 when we arrived. We had sunshine for our entire cross-country trip. When we arrived in Galway it turned overcast and cool. While we were out walking on Quay Street (pronounced "key" street), we experienced one of the notorious freak hail storms that Jessie has been telling us about. One minute nothing, the next minute it is raining hail. Everyone on the street just walks to the sides under shop awnings or in doorways to escape the hail storm. They just keep talking on their cell phones and chatting as normal. The hail lasts about 30 seconds and then suddenly stops. Everyone comes back out on the street and keeps going on about their business as if this is perfectly normal. Very strange! A ... read more

Hi, we are in Belfast, got here yesterday. Since I keep getting bounced off the internet, I am putting just a little bit on this blog and then ending e-mails with longer text. Today we took the 1.5 hr tour bus and it was very interesting. We passed through an area that has a wall that opens at 7a and closes at 6p. If you live within the wall you are of the Catholic faith. It is amazing that in this day and age of the 21st century people still live like that. One side of the street is Protestant and the other side is Catholic. Although the tour guides are quick to add that everyone has been working very hard at a whole country continuity, with this wall in plain site, it does make you ... read more
