Adare Golf club
10th Fairway alongside The Manor Hotel Hi everyone,
Here we are again!
We left Killarney heading for Adare and one of the first places we went through was Castlemaine - birthplace of Jack Duggan - the Wild Colonial Boy - a bushranger in Australia. (In Australia - my mum lived in Castlemaine, Victoria for a time about 30 years ago!)
As we drove along there was an older couple riding their bikes and stopped to have a kiss - we bipped and they waved to us.
During our drives through very narrow roads most of the time - unlike the type of roads we're used to - there are wild fuschia bushes growing along the fringes of the roads - along with other wild flowers and bushes. Lots of fences made out of rocks and you can see the rubbles of rocks where many old homes were once upon a time.
On our way to Adare we drove through high winding roads on through O'Connor Pass - great scenery and the photos don't do it justic at all.
We went through Dingle Bay and tried to have lunch at Doyle's Seafood but sadly it was shut. Ireland is a bit quiet
The Manor
The hotel next to the Adare Golf Club at this time of the year due to the recession - we're told and many places are either closed or opening a little later than usual.
We went to the Adare Golf Club which had previously held the Irish Open with all the big names of golf and last month a tournament with all the big names of golf - magnificent golf course and complete with it's own castle - named the The Manor Hotel - very old world but again magnificent and very friendly people working there. We stopped and had a drink and John bought a golf shirt. They have International memberships as long as you're in Ireland for 60 days or less per year but the fees are much cheaper than our local golf club at Hope Island!!!
When unloading the car at the Adare B & B - we found that some muffins we had stuffed away in a bag had been half eaten - apparently while we were unpacking the car - the owners cat got in and found them!! Crumbs all over the place and one happy cat! We had to chuck the rest of them out but John grabbed them and
Doyles Seafood Restaurant
?? hmm bit different to the famous Sydney one shared them amongst the dogs....
Of course we had a look around the town and checked out the shops and found heaps of stuff but most of it was really expensive... but nice and different from home .... and then had dinner at Aunt Lena's.
We had a really nice stay there with a young family who had a huge acreage - complete with cats and dogs - note the Newfoundland dog, Bear, they call him and with good reason! Massive dog - John loved playing with him too. In the hallway at the B & B was a phone which had incorporated the table as part of the working phone - have never seen one like this and know some of you will be interested in this so took a photo.
