How amazing is this
What you expect in Ireland We are on the road again and we are off to Clew Bay which is includes the Spanish Armada Viewpoint. This was named after two ships from the defeated Spanish Armada fleet sank here in storms in 1588 - you cannot see any ship wrecks, well let’s be honest they would have been long gone by now due to the time frame. However once again the vista (yes getting good with words) was stunning. I am going to have to think of other words to describe the vistas (see did it again, ha ha) as all I am using is stunning or amazing but what else can you say when they are.
We then move on to Achill Island and over the Achill Sound with the bridge crossing it onto Keel Strand where we eye up a campsite but when looking at it we decide’ do you know what, it might have all the facilities but it does not float my boat and there is a large expanse of land next to it where we can get better views for free and we are only staying one night. So Wild Camping again it is to be - 4th
night we haven’t paid for!! But we hatch a plan tomorrow to stay in a campsite in Connemara National Park where we can empty stuff (you do not want to know honestly) and fill up with water etc and get rid of grey waste.
So having eyed up where we were going to stay tonight we made our way over to Keem Bay. Now when you read reviews you should really use your brain. It said it was “the bay of the mountain recess” and this means it’s a mountain and what are mountains but bloody big hills and what happens when you have hills, I end up hanging over the edge and all I am shouting is “I am going to die, I am going to die”. When we got there it was amazing and all I could think of at least when we go back I will be beside the mountain and not the edge of the cliff. Now I will let you into a secret when I am on the side hanging over the mountain I lean over towards Mike to help keep the van from not falling over the edge - how stupid
Doolough Valley
A photo does not give it justice is that!!!!
We are back now at the place where we decided to stop and I am having a cheeky gin & tonic, well it is after 5pm and I have had a stressful couple of hours feeling like I am ab-sailing down Everest - who would have thought I have done a sky dive and paragliding am I getting a woosie in my old age?!! Wake up in the morning and there’s a sheep under the front of the van and another scratching itself on the side - back to real nature or what haha.
We have arrived in Connemara which has a national park and to get there we had to go thorough Doolough Valley which once again was stunning and if honest the roads were not too bad apart from seeing a lorry that had gone down a ditch and was on its side - not good viewing. We stopped at Leanne for a spot of lunch which is next to Killary Harbour. The lunch was the best we have eaten in Ireland and even came with a couple of oysters 🦪 which was definitely a Brucie bonus. The site we are at has a washing machine so I am hopefully going to be able to use it if I can get the chance as a lot of people are like me and wanting to get some washing done. If I do not manage to use it I think we will have to find somewhere in Galway City when we get there as getting short on the smalls. Nearly 1200 miles travelled so far since leaving home and maybe about the same or more to go yet.
I have been planning on where we go tomorrow and guess what it has a Sky Road and you know what that means - eyes shut, lean over etc etc -so watch out for tomorrow’s blog!
