Well today was the last vaccination shot (although we have one left in June). We've also drunk the cholera "potion"....did not like it....I'm kindof squeamish so you had to fight keeping it down...it was not so much the taste, rather the texture. Anyway, only two weeks till l leave my little island. Amazing how time flies. I remember me and Guðrún starting this trip a year ago and thinking:" This is so far away that it's probably never going to happen". But like always time goes so fast by that you almost don't have enough time...or start plannig a bit to late (like in school). Yes, we could use more time planning things but we'll just play it by ear I guess. _____________________________________________________________ Jæja, þá er síðast sprautan búin, eða í bili. Hello all of you Today we would like to tell you about a journey we made last year. In June last year mom and dad asked us if we would like to travel. We said "YES" and started to give suggestions on where we could go. We suggested Partyland, we suggested Palmfringedbeachland, we suggested Lazybythepoolland and we even suggested Coralreefland. But where did mum and dad take us? Iceland! Ice is something you have in Whiskey not something you make a land out of! Mum and dad are evil... First they give us hope and then they take it away... Well, let's hope mum and dad brings warm clothes for us too because Iceland sounds very cold. We borrowed mum's and dad's guidebook so we could read a little bit about Iceland. It turned out that ... read more

The three of us have been living together for the past 4 months but moved last weekend. It's been strange not seeing Gudrún everyday....but after 3 weeks we'll be breathing down each others necks all the time so....... We met yesterday to book the rest of the flights. It didn't go very well at first. Spent a lot of time trying to book flights on sites that didn't seem to know that Iceland exists. We even tried booking under nationalities like Greenlanders and Danish....funny... After a lot of frustration and pulling our hairs out we finally succeeded in booking at least some of the flights. I strongly recommend dohop.com. If you're from Iceland don't even try to use Kayak.com....that was a waste of time...but Kayak.co.uk was successful in some cases. So now we just need to ... read more

So so so sorry for the length of this blog, I recommed reading it in stages. I didn't anticipate it being so long! My post christmas trip to Iceland with Clare and Chris for New Year has been something I've really looked foward to on my trip. I didn't really know what to expect from it, apart from extreme cold. As it turned out, I didn't even get that! But I should start at the beginning... after a busy Christmas, this holiday got off to a stressful start. We were due to catch the Gatwick Express from Victoria station in central London at 6.00 to be at Gatwick by 6.30 for an 8.30 flight. However, at 5.50 we were distressed to read the electronic sign in Victoria station saying that the Gatwick Express was replaced by ... read more

BWI-Reykjavik: flight time 5 hours, 15 minutes Months back, the plan was to fly into Iceland and have a 9-hour layover. Scott felt it would give us the opportunity to leave the airport and see something of Reykjavik before we continued our trek east. This plan was changed after a frank discussion was had that highlighted Kat's preference for not making a long and complicated travel itinerary any longer or complicated than it needed to be. We had rearranged things so as to have a 2-hour layover. Of course, this was before we had a 5-hour delay coming out of BWI. Our entire stay in Iceland involved getting off our plane, commenting on the lovely glass-walled jetways, walking across the hallway, and entering another glass-walled jetway. While we had been flying, it had been announced that ... read more

Stick those needles in my arm please!! Yeah, had my first vaccinations for the trip today. In total 4 shots. Have to go back again in January, for the second Hepatis shot and perhaps Yellow fever (though that's probably not neccesary). My arms were sore all day and got some brusing. But otherwise l'm fine. We also got some cholera medecin stuff which we need to drink before we leave. Probably be grose. We're still wondering about which Malaria drugs to take. There are a few to chose from but all of them have pros and cons. I think people underestimate life in an almost disease free country. Just a flew now and then....nothing to get worked up about. ... read more

And here we are, the final entry! (of travel) It's our last day in Iceland. We have a free morning to do as we choose. I have a stream of traffic coming through our hotel room as there is free wireless connection in the room..........everyone is checking e-mails: Leona, Gail, Elviera, Ben, Tim and Lynn, Anne, Tina, Jarrott, ........My Internet Cafe is open! Time to pack the suitcases. I didn't do much shopping because my intention on this trip was to experience as many of the adventures as I could, rather than pick up trinkets and dust collector-type items to bring home. And to try and choose gifts for people, when you visit so many different countries, is enough to drive you insane. So, instead, I chose the camel ride, the time at the Snow Park ... read more

Hello everyone! This is a most appropriate time for me to say a HUGE thank you to my very best friend, Katie!!!!! Without her generous gift of the digital camera, none of you would be enjoying this pictorial journey with us around the world. Thank you, Katie! (and I even figured out how to use the zoom lens finally!). Thank you, thank you! A picture is worth a million words. So, where did I leave off?????? Oh yeah, we were visiting the Geysers! What a sight. We all enjoyed that spot. We had lunch at a little restaurant in a hotel at the site, and then wandered around the gift shop for a while. Then, it was time to get back on the bus and head to the Falls. It was a short stop, but a ... read more
