Budapest I arrived after a plane delay from Turkey where upon arrival in Minsk everyone clapped for the landing. Happily there was no clapping this time for the landing in Budapest. Due to arriving late and having no idea how to find my accomodation I decided to grab a taxi, get stuck in traffic and then walk up 4 flights of stairs to my delightful top floor single room in a lovely Hungarian couple's apartment which would be my recovery home for the next week. I grabbed a salad for tea, unpacked, repacked as I was off to visit Kat Slager in the morning in Kesckemet (an hour train ride away) and slept happily. I woke stupidly early to catch bus (illegally as there were no ticket machines) and race for the train. Luckily Kat agreed ... read more

Our first taste of Hungarian life was sitting at the back of a shuttle bus enduring quite a trip into the city centre. It was not the shortest of journeys as unbeknownst to us we were the last drop off due to being the furthest away. Our hotel was on the Buda side of the city and after being up and down most of the streets on the Pest side we felt somewhat relieved when we crossed the Danube; “Danube so blue, so bright and blue” may not be the best description these days but I will resist the attempt to change history. The view that awaited us was on a par with what we had experienced in Barcelona as we were elevated and near the Castle and we looked back over the river and away ... read more

We slept in until 7:30…. No AC, warm early. We ate breakfast at the hotel, and what a spread!!! They had traditional breakfast items such as several kinds of eggs, meats, cereal, yogurt, pastries and bread, juices, coffee, etc. They also had many kinds of lunch meats, cheeses, desserts, salads, fruits, etc. I tried a lemon curd, which was cream of wheat with lemon and sugar. Gary tried some cooked vegetables that were great. We made sandwiches for lunch to take with us. We decided to explore Buda, specifically Castle Hill. There is a funicular (tram) that will take you to the top. However, we ended up on Gellert Hill instead, without a tram. Gary counted 363 stairs up plus as many inclines. It took us almost an hour to reach the top, and it was ... read more

We got up at 6:30, made breakfast, packed up and were on the walking trail by 7:30. 45 minutes later, we arrived at the train station. At least we got our exercise for the morning. We got some “coffee to go” with milk and secured a seat on the outside bench to wait for out train. We lucked out today… we were on track #1. That meant that we did not have to drag the bags down 2 flights of stairs, under the tracks and back up! WHEW!!! The train was on time. We were later than usual getting on the train due to a mass exodus out the door I picked. I could have figured out to get on at the other door but too late. We crammed into a compartment with two nice young ... read more

Thank you for all the prayers! Everyone is doing good and having a great time. Our schedule at this camp is from 8am until about 8pm. We have around 60 kids daily. The girls are teaching songs and Bible Verses in English. We are also doing a puppet skit daily. We are very near the Slovakian border and so we have been learning the song King of Kings and the Lord's prayer in both Hungarian and Slovakian. Tomorrow we are planning on a day trip with all the children into Slovakia to see a castle. SYT... read more

We are sorry that we didn't write sooner but we had no place that had wi-fi. We had great flights over and perfect landings. Everyone is fine and doing good. We arrived in Budapest on thursday and headed for Repcelak and stayed over night there and then we got up early and headed for Italy. We went by boat to San Marco and walked around Venice as there is no vechicles allowed. After we headed out and stayed overnight in Austria at a beautiful place and then we went to the home village where Judit and Mitja will live after they are married in Slovania. Then we stopped by Lake Balaton and the girls were able to put their feet into the water. This is the biggest lake in Hungary. We arrived late (10 pm) in ... read more
