It's been a while since the last update (sorry, been having too much fun) This was to be the last country before heading back to the UK to obtain a contract, Another Cab takes us over the border from Albania to Greece, We jump on a bus on the border and head towards the town of Ioannina. This is where we were going to grab some transport out to the monasteries of Meteora. (Mum and Dad advised us to check these out, they missed them and always regretted it.) So that’s basically how the travel plans were made, and I'm sure glad we did. We arrive in Ioannina in the morning, a bus to Meteora leaves at 3pm. Yasu, So I finally made it into Greece. I caught the bus in Tirana and started to head across the Albania/Greece border towards Thessaloniki. The passport control took forever and then afterwards we had to wait for the bus to get searched which took so long that I began to wonder if maybe the bus had just kept going and left all its passengers standing by the side of the road. Anyway we all piled back on the bus and were driving along and all of a sudden a few of the passengers and the bus driver started yelling at each other, and every time you'd think it was over one of them would get the final word in and the whole thing would erupt again. Milos, Mykonos, Santorini, Aegina, Patmos??? Our clock is all wrong now. We went to bed at 6am and, although Leroy gets up a little earlier, we’re not ready to face the world until about 2pm. The Acropolis closes at 7:30pm and the Best Western concierge encourages us to walk there. It’ll take an hour, he says, so we must leave enough time. But our need for a bed and our empty stomachs win over. We have to find a place to stay tomorrow night and the night after. Thursday night should not be a problem since most of the soccer fans will have left. We went to the meat market, seafood market and the veg market. Very vibrant places, and full of activities. The sellers in the meat and seafood market are mainly young guys, and pretty cute too. We took a metro to the ferry terminal. The torture then begins... we walked for half an hour with full battle order... to locate the building to collect our ferry tickets... then another long walk (1 hr) to the other side of the huge port to reach our ferry. Shawna didn't even have energy to nag.... A buckle in Wendy's backpack BROKE :o Guess the bag is too heavy..... It's going to be a 18 hrs journey to Rhodes island. We took a tram (didn't pay because we didn't know how to) to National Archaeological Museum. Today is National Museum Day. Good news is that entrance was free!!, but bad news is, the whole place is crowded with school kids.... The Acropolis is under major restoration and plus the crowd, there's simply no way to get a decent photo of the Parthenon without scaffolding structures and people. No matter what, we've seen the REAL thing.. :)... read more
