Just like the previous mornings Kirsten is up and on her way to the bakery. I think she’s leaving me behind on purpose. So at breakfast I ask, oh no I just didn’t want to wake you up, Yea.
Today Brain, Mandy and the kids are going to the Eagles Nest. This is the cool house that was built for Hilter’s 50th B-day. Turns out he’s scared of heights so he didn’t go up there often. Since Kirsten and I have already seen the place we opted to do our own thing. Oma and Opa decided to stay at the house and relax, so we all went in different directions and promised to meet up after lunch.
So Kirsten and I decided to go to Ramsau where we saw there is a walk Wimbach Klamm. This basically a gorge,, where over millions of years the water coming down from the Watzmann “Germany’s second highest mtn) has cut a major Klamm “gorge” through the mountain. The walk was great but didn’t take more than an hour start to finish.
So Kirsten says let’s go and see the Hintersee (lake). And I said ok.
We take off down this one
lane road at best as were weaving around other cars coming at us. We find the Hintersee not a minute too soon, my heart is pounding.
It’s another beautiful lake surrounded by major mountains, we begin our walk around the lake following the path. We took our lunch and found a nice shady spot about half way around. We sat there having lunch and staring at the mountains. It’s hard not to wonder what the folks thought thousands of years ago when they came upon this spot. Kirsten pops my moment and says they thought “how #@&! am I going to get over that mountain”.
About that time this boat pulls up and offers us a ride back across the lake, I was so impressed, again Kirsten pop’s my bubble, it’s a Euro each. Ohhh, well that’s not too bad, let’s go.
When were back in our car, we decide to go to Obersalzburg, This is an area between Berchtesgaden and Salzbburg. We wind up the mountain, Ober means OVER, get it Over Salzberg. You didn’t think you’d be learning so much German did you. We found this cute, I mean CUTE café at the top of
the mountain so we stopped and had coffee and cake. So GOOOOD!!!!!
Ok this part is great, as we were looking for a coffee and cake place we found this cool, and I mean Cool Park. It’s a bob sleigh place, ride where you get this cool little sleigh and you ride down the side of the mountain. When you get to the bottom they pull you back up and you get to do it again. Man is this not the coolest. It cost 3 Euro a run but it was well worth it. Wooo Hooo here I go again.
Everyone meets back at the house and I take Brian to the side and tell him about the ride.
Tomorrow the boys are going to be riding bob sleighs. But now we all have to get cleaned up and were going back down to the Konisee, big lake remember.
They are having a party to announce the location for the 2018 Winter Olympics. The choices were South Korea, Munich German and some other place. Lots of people balloons, food, beer big screen TV. So we and a few thousand other people watched while the Olympic committee
picked South Korea. That placed cleared out faster than a house full of cock roaches when the Orkin man shows up.
So we pack up and head back into Berchtesgaden, we decide to eat at this German restaurant in town that we've eaten at before. We all order German dishes except Brain, he orders a big pizza for him mandy and the kids. What! we’re in German not Italy.
After dinner we head back home stopping at the ice cream shop and Brian treats us all to ice cream, thanks Brian.
Once we get to the house Will is ready to play cards again.
Yes, Will won again, pretty good for a 4th grader.
