‘Friends in France’ are now happily ensconced in a delightful apartment in Annecy, the Venice of France.

The flights were smooth…as was the steward’s dance move with Mabel as soon as we stepped onto the Emirates plane in Melbourne! Three hours at Dubai airport passed quickly as we enjoyed the relaxing vibe of the Emirates lounge. Flying over the alps coming into Geneva was a highlight. Spectacular snow-capped mountains glimmered under the fluffy clouds. We congratulated Neville on his fine driving skill, negotiating Friday afternoon summer traffic in Geneva and copious roundabouts en route to Annecy. A warm, sunny afternoon followed by a balmy evening allowed us to enjoy the balcony and promise of summer weather.

After a good night’s sleep we were ready to explore the local area…but what’s that? Rain?! Thunder?! Of course! But, not to be deterred, we had to get to the market for our provisions. The farmers from the surrounding areas bring their fresh produce for sale. It was a difficult setting up process for them, given the weather but their efforts were worthwhile. Such decisions for us to make; such delicious produce.

A day

of strolling, imagining what this ancient area would have been like in the 1400-1500s; window shopping, perhaps a few purchases, much laughter….and, of course, enjoying fine food and company. Delightful!

The fortified Palais de I'Ile was built on a natural rocky island in the 12th century. It has been a prison, courthouse, old peoples' home, barracks, a coin minting workshop...and is now a museum.
