Hi! It took us a week to get to this end of the road. But just one klick to read the feature about Maria in the local paper in Strängnäs. Great pictures and story. Sunday 16 mars Yesterday we went shopping in the supermarket. And then I mean SUPER market. It was really big and confusing and we went there on midday Saturday. You can imagine, it was really crowded. As some of you allready heard only K’s dictionary saved us from having rabbit for dinner. A lot of confusion in that store, I can tell you that. In the afternoon we went for a walk to see the village. That took us about five minutes…. It’s not large, as you can understand. So we continued up the hill and climbed our local mountain peak. We didn’t get to the top though, this time… May be we will with some of you, in a near future? It’s quite amazing to see our village from above. You thought you were on ... read more

Saturday 15 mars The first morning. We slept as long as we liked. Quite a while... Not a ten a clock breakfast to strive for. What a relief! And this dark, damp, cramped place had thank god changed during the night. Now it was a sunny and beautiful place! Still cramped though, but you get used to it. K found her morning-place in the sun. A cat which we call Sixten showed up. And the view is breathtaking! And you don’t need a watch. The mediaval church (the nearest building) tells the time every hour with its little bell! Maybe this will be a nice stay after all?! ... read more

Friday 13 mars I didn’t tell my wife it was Friday the 13th. I tried to forget it myself as well, as we started our way through the Alps and towards Italy. We were pretty convinced that we would make another stop in Italy, and get to Bonson on Saturday. Gullan told us it was about 550 kilometers to Bonson, and the first 70 kilometers took us one and a half our to drive. Astonishing winding roads and breathtaking views. My hands were shaky sometimes when the road took us up and down the peaks of the Alps. But thank God the weather was great. Sun and around 2 degrees above zero on the highest road. The San Bernardino pass was closed, well; we wouldn’t have been going that way anyway, we took the 6,6 kilometer ... read more

Finally snow. And pretty much of it!

The region was home to Vincent Van Gogh, with the picturesque villages, fields of lavender and sunflowers inspiring a great deal of his paintings. With this in mind Kathryn was rather disappointed when instead of lavender and sunflowers she got more vineyards. I told her to look on the bright side, wine was still cheap! I really love the South of France! As with Languedoc, our drive to Avignon was memorable with tree-lined roads covered in shade from the canopy above and wide canals running along the sides. Avignon is famous for its Papal palace (The Pope´s lived here a couple of centuries ago after fleeing Rome) and more recently its annual Performing Arts Festival. On the morning of our first full day in the town, I took a wrong turn and ended up driving through ... read more

Bonjour!! Here we are in Provence, Lourmarin in the Luberon area to be exact. Provence has been beautiful. Whenever we arrive the good weather arrives also so it seems. We have broken our jinx from previous years travels. Well we have visited lots of little villages: Lourmarin, Gordes, Rousillon, Saignon, Apt, Bonnieux. Of all of them Lourmarin where we stayed is my favourite. It has a small Chateau which was fully furnished. It was just amazing to see how they lived back then. Whats even more amazing is that I still have all the large chateaus to come yet in the Loire Valley. Man we are chewing through the Euros here. It is so expensive to eat and drink here. We will have to sell a lot of snorkels afterwards!! Anyway, we have just got to ... read more

The second break of the year took us to France to celebrate Lisa and Peter's wedding in Provence. We flew on Friday morning from a sunny Stanstead with the exceptional Ryan Air to Marseille and surprisingly arrived in glorious sunshine - it wasn't to last. Hiring a car along with Betty we drove to Lorgues along typically dangerous French Auto Routes and once off the main road through picturesque villages surrounded by vineyards to our hotel in Lorgues. Parking outside we were a bit dubious as to what Sally had booked - it looked like a typical French town house in a back street. However, once inside we were amazed at how nice the place was. There were only 5 rooms and all had been booked by the wedding party. We were to share it with ... read more
