Southern Europe -Day 3

Quieter day today. Caught up on some sleep then had a face call with the family. Great to speak with Charlie and Pippa just before they went to bed. Charlie had problems working out why we had blue skies and sunshine when it was dark and cold in Melbourne. Left that one with his parents.......

Out for a walk and through the backstreets passed a cafe where 2 people had a really nice looking Charcuterie plate. Back pedalled and had one of those with a cheese platter to follow as our lunch (with a cheeky little Rose). Great way to start the day. Found a restaurant that was recommended for dinner so booked a table for tonight (had been told it was hard to get a booking). No problems, in for the second sitting at 2100.

Wandered back to our street where all the soccer fans were merging -Swedes to the left and Belgians to the right. A great sight of yellow (with some blue) then the red and black of the Belgians. Noisy but controlled - sort of. We stayed there for a while then wandered up to another square where more fans were gathered. Lots of buses taking them to the stadium, and even more police and army with lots of big guns on show. No troubles though so all good.

Had a drink then set off to the port for another look at the rich peoples toys. We're going to book a cruise to Monte Carlo but the booking office was shut. Just means an earlier start tomorrow.

Back to town in a different direction and into the crowd again. Find seat at a pub with the soccer on big TV's. Watch the end of the Hungary and Portugal game then back to freshen up for dinner. Have been told this place is 5 star food at 2 star prices. Hmm.

To the restaurant, seat outside which is nice. Waitress remembers us from lunch time booking so all smiles. did I mention the menu is a chalkboard with no sub-titles. Luckily we get a translated version by the waiter. Food was great, what I could eat. Finished dinner with a nice dessert then rolled back to the apartment.

Day 3 done and dusted.
