Where in the world is Gabby the motorhome? Sitting outside the ruins of the Abbaye de Ourscamp in Picardy. Who would have thought that we would have made it? It seems an age away that the idea was mooted to spend Christmas in France. We had plenty of Tesco vouchers to pay for most of the Chunnel trip and had the time off work to make a holiday worthwhile . What we needed was the battery to work. Jenny's Birthday and what a day!! The day started with Jenny getting tea in bed. At breakfast, she was smothered with kisses (2 if you're French, 3 if you're Dutch) and presented with a cute little 'rum baba' cake complete with candle. The cake had cream and a raspberry on top and a small vial of rum which you inject into the cake. We had it for afternoon tea - Yum!! Today's ride was almost completely within the Cempiegne forest. We left Elodie and were subject to a rugged start with a few hundred yards of rough cobblestones across the front of the Palace. This is where the Paris to Roubaix bike race starts. This race is largely on cobblestones and the riders cover approximately 260km in one day of bone jarring, teeth shattering riding. After ... read more

After yesterdays 58 miles turned into almost 70, mostly uphill, we decided to stick to the faster D roads. Colin (can we stop for a cake) & Paul (can we stop for a wee) set the pace whilst Michael cruised in our slip stream. Crossed the Somme & had our first roadside repair - Colins inner tube sticking through his supposedly puncture proof tyres. After baguette & chips (carb loading) in Roye, Michael took up the lead for the last leg and pushed for home as the others flagged. I'm only doing 15 mph he said until it was pointed out we had been going uphill for the last 5 miles.
