It was a long drive from Central London to Champcey in France, 400 miles to be precise. After a short Eurotunnel ride across the British channel we were in Calais. From there the arduous journey really began, no sat nav, navigation the old fashioned way, with a map, on the wrong side of the road, in storm like rain. When we first started driving through France we drove over a moderately big bridge, Nikki started to freak out a little as she has a fear of heights and doesn’t like driving at the best of times. I followed the route on the map and saw that the road went over water. I hoped it was a tunnel and not another bridge. As we got closer we went over a bridge, over water, that was smaller than ... read more

As a child did you ever watch a film in which someone has a long lost relative that leaves their entire estate to that person in their will? Well in a roundabout way that sort of happened to me. I remember watching films like that and afterwards imagining what it might feel like to have that happen to me. Not because of the monetary value of the inheritance, not entirely anyway, but because of the excitement of learning about that person’s life. Wondering what they may have thought/felt about me, what connection I had to their life, where they had lived, what they worked as, what they looked like, finding out about members of my family I never knew existed. Finding out personal aspects about this ‘stranger’ who somehow knew me. It had been around 15 ... read more

I had yet to find out I wouldn't be disappointed. When I finally arrived there, I was flabbergasted as I stepped out of the car. There it was in the distance, standing tall and dream-like. It easily resembled a fairytale castle in a children's book. The parking lot was giant, and there were tourists everywhere. Getting to the entry stairway took nearly ... read more

So that was France and Spain then? Well all we had time for in our four week journey fitted in between saying goodbye to a daughter and hello to in-laws. We have been travelling not blogging. Surprisingly wifi in France was not ubiquitous. We struggled to get contact with the outside world. Graeme thought it was great. I, of course was not so happy. No travel blogs! So after our return and a quick trip to Morocco squeezed in I find some time to bring the travel tales up to date. Our first camping site was parked outside an elementary school in Dannes after following signs to three camping sites all of which were closed. Not only closed but shut and barred.. We realised we were late, not only timewise but for the end of the ... read more
