Tuesday 29th August 2023/ Wednesday 30thAugust 2023 We caught the Pont Aven from Plymouth at 8.00pm on Tuesday 29th August for the overnight crossing to Roscoff. We didn’t bother with a cabin as the ship was docking at 6.30am (5.30am UK time!!) so sleep time was going to be very short anyway!! Watched a fantastic sunset over Plymouth as we left, saw the Harvest Moon come up, went duty free shopping and then watched the Taylor Swift tribute show. Gin and tonic-ed up I dossed on the floor ( I could have had a couchette!!) about 11.00pm and after the baby had gone to sleep, we both managed about 4hrs sleep, before all the lights were turned on at 5.30am and we all duly trooped back to our cars ready for disembarkation at 6.30am!! So there ... read more

It was a beautiful day so we decided to drive all the way around the Brittany peninsula to get to Roscoff rather than cut across country. It was a very pleasant drive indeed with lovely views of the coast from time to time. Before we knew it we were trying to find somewhere to park in Roscoff's busy little streets. We ended up in a side road in a residential area and carrying our bags down an alleyway to find our hotel. The Hotel d'Angleterrewas a lovely place, like a traditional B&B with big, comfortable rooms. The glorious weather continued into the evening so we took a walk around before finding somewhere for dinner. Last year had had a glimpse of the town and we were pleased we had taken the time to see it more ... read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our 8 days in Camaret, but just after noon on the 9thday we left the marina and joined our friends, Louise and Fons (S/V Aju) who left a little earlier headed to an anchorage about an hour away in Anse de Bertheaume. The reason for this very short hop was to shorten the trip the next day and to make it easier to leave at 2:30AM the next morning, rather than at 1:30AM. The things we do to go with the tide! We had a beautiful sail over to the anchorage – it was so nice we hated to stop, but we also knew that the next day was going to be a long one and we needed to get some sleep before that happened. We have been very fortunate to have Louise ... read more

Nearly forgot about this blog! Our final stop in France was Roscoff from where we took the ferry over to Plymouth. The drive there took a couple of hours and the weather wasn't great so Trish was left worrying about how rough the crossing was going to be. She needn't have worried. As we drove into Roscoff we were surprised by the number of wine and beer supermarkets. These are quite normal in places like Calais with just a short ferry ride back to the UK, but for some reason we didn't expect it to be so in Brittany with much longer voyages. Still, we were already well supplied so instead of looking for bargains we parked up and had a wander around the town. First up was the rocky outcrop above which sits the chapel ... read more
