What a surprise to run into this carnaval, people dress in middle age costume walking around inside the alley of Vannes, that was full of old half timbered houses, was it thousand of 1 night.....!!! Vannes was an important trading port in medieval time for merchandise from the east, perhaps that reflected part of the street scene of restaurant in mixed cusine like Afghan, Indian, Japan.... of course...together with the Irish celtic favour, you got quite an international feel in this beautiful town down the southern coast of Brittany.... read more

Rain in the night. Not supposed to do that when we have left the chairs out. Bob had to leap up and tuck everything away. By the time we got up it was ok again and sky was reasonably blue so we set off on the scooter. Took the cycle track to St Jacques as campsite owner said we could. This is a little fishing port with a very rocky shoreline and the type of fishing is odd, to say the least. We don’t understand what it is that the French do when they stand around, bent right over, in muddy seawater with buckets and knives. We think they are digging up crustaceans but not sure what sort – mussels, oysters, scallops ? Whatever it is they do there were a lot of them doing it ... read more

Special note for my friend Lynne. Hope that these blogs are keeping you entertained during your lunch breaks ! Todays Campsite is : Domaine le Bohat, Sarzeau Woke to the sound of ducks quacking on the water but couldn’t see them as the river was shrouded in mist, which gave us hope for a sunny day. Should have got up sooner than we did for a drive-day with quite a few miles to cover to get us across to the Gulf of Morbihan in Brittany. Not helped that we needed to shop for a few essentials on the way. More milk, and potatoes to replace those we accidentally left behind in the veggie rack at home (neighbour Chris is getting accustomed to panic calls asking him to empty it out and please use anything edible). Found ... read more

Sunday, July 26 Mont St. Michel, Menhir du Champ-Dolent, and St. Jacques-de-la-Lande When we returned at night to our room, we are assailed by the fragrance of the cheese we had bought at the market in Bayeux. Since we have a wide windowsill, we promptly left the bag outside on the sill for the night. Breakfast is served from 8:15-9:30. Again, our hosts have been thoughtful for Jackie, and have fresh fruit, soft farmer cheese and yogurt for her. The cheese and yogurt was actually “artisian” made by their neighbor who has a dairy farm. We have baguettes, homemade brioche, and homemade apple and apricot jams, too. We have a table for four to ourselves. The other guests are all down for breakfast by the time we return to our room. The French conversation is lively. ... read more

South Brittany - Concarneau to Belle Ille Well we ended up staying much, much longer in Concarneau than we had anticipated; simple reason was that we enjoyed the place so much. We were able to enjoy the Bastille Day Eve Celebrations, Nikki wanted to have her birthday here and we were finally able to catch up with John and Sue Allison from Swagman. We heard from the Tourist Info Office that the Concarnians (for want of a better word) always celebrate Bastille Day on the evening of the 13th of July and there were going to be bands and fireworks so that sounded pretty good to us so we decided to stay on for a bit longer. We had been making daily sojourns into the old town to listen to the buskers, buy ice creams and ... read more
