Hello, We arrived in Bordeaux and figured out how to navigate ourselves to another part of town, Gambetta Square. We booked a nice room from Camere at the La Chic de Lyon. We strolled a couple blocks into Gambetta Square to find a full-scale Tour de France bicycle qualifier going on! The race comprised about 60 2-3km laps (not real sure on this distance but the groups were flying around every few minutes) around the Gambetta Square area. I love biclying these days so you know I was pumped. We even drank wine at a cafe with seats right in front of the barricades with a perfect view as they flew around. It was just awesome to get such a surprise in Bordeaux right away. A guy named Brice blahblahfrenchie won. For those that watched the ... read more

No er eg godt i gang. Synd men sant. Fantastisk! Ein ... read more

Flyet framme i Dar 1730.

Call Me Stubborn But I Still Think Australian Wine Is Better!! Leaving the coast I made my way South back down to a little town called Blois in central France in the Loire Valley. Made famous for it's concentration of Chateaux, I intended to get out to Chateau Chambord which was built in by the monarchy with influences from Leonardo Di Vinci who lived just down the road. Unfortunately I didn't arrive until late afternoon and I already had a train booked for 2pm the next day. With the bus timetable the way it was the earliest I could make it back to Blois was 3pm so that plan went out the window. In saying that, I did manage to fill my time in Blois productively though as the town has numerous walking trails throughout the ... read more

My eyes scan the big red pin board marked ‘Le Activities’ “Oh my God! Chris! Cancel the pedal boating, the tennis and the mini golf! It’s nearly 8:30. The barrel rolling demonstration is about to begin!” How exactly did we get here? Surrounded by children, ice creams and camp staff in red uniforms? Are we in… a French version of Hi-De-Hi… or… worse…. Centre Parcs?! After our drive out of the Dordogne Valley, we headed for Bordeaux hoping for some sophisticated wine tasting and a few romantic bike rides through the vines. We wanted to stay near St Emilion and of course we hadn’t pre booked any campgrounds as we haven’t had any problems so far. I can’t believe we didn’t consider that the land around St Emilion is dedicated to vine yards. Who would build ... read more

So I've been writing a lot about my travels outside of Bordeaux, but I haven't written lately about what's going on here in Bordeaux; and although I forget from time to time, the stuff that happens here is worth writing about too. It's funny to think that I could get so used to life here that I can resist running to good ol' travelblog.org to report every detail. Anywho, here's a sample of what things are like chez Lisa. A typical Thursday: My alarm goes off at 6:45am and I groan. So far, pretty much the same as any weekday morning I spent in L.A. But as soon as I open my eyes, a very different world smacks me in the face. First of all, it's pitch dark. The sun doesn't start coming up until around ... read more

I made it on my plane just fine, everything hit me while in Detroit, when I was connecting with my plane to Paris. Thankfully I slept the entire time!! It was an eight hour flight and I landed in Paris at 11am. So I wanted to make sure I got some good sleep. The plane wasn't that full (the one to Tokyo was PACKED so i didn't know what to expect!). No one sat next to me, so most of the time, I layed across the two seats with my pillow and slept. Neck a little sore, but ehh can't complain. I make it Paris and realized that even tho this is Europe, no one speaks English. At least I didn't find those people. And I'm really glad that I did my homework before coming ... read more

In the last two weeks, so much has happened I couldn't possibly describe it all in one entry. So, enjoy this first installment and keep your eyes peeled (if you'd like) for more to come... ---- As I'm sure I've mentioned before, France likes its vacation. And just because French students and teachers work their butts off to try to uphold high national education standards does not mean that they are an exception. Consequently, I am entitled to several one to two week holidays throughout the school year. My first one just ended: Toussaint (tous=all, saint=well, saint) or All Saints, which is a week and a half long. My Toussaint was more than just a week and half with no work, however; my mom flew out from the San Francisco Bay Area to visit me. I ... read more

So I have been on vacation for more than a week now. Started out in Paris visiting some friends. It was great! Didnt do all the touisty stuff like usual but still had fun. I think this is the first vacation in Europe where I didnt mind just relaxing and occcationally finding things to do. Sunday I left Lyon and got in and went to dinner with an old friend from my foyer in Paris. We ate at a salon de tea and had amazing cakes that were free because we also knew the manager (she was from my foyer too!). Monday we decided to go shopping but it was so crowded and then had dinner at a friends. And when I say we, my friend Cara from my program in Paris was nice enough to ... read more
