Yeap! ... read more

Finish people are the most crazy people I have ever meet by far and yes that is me naked in a sauna, that info is at the bottom.. When traveling up in the Lapland part they are extremely over the top expecually when on the drink. I was up in Rovamanni when Santa's offical residence is and headed out with the people I was staying with and my god was it crazy. They just dont care about anything or anyone the people up there but on the other hand it made for a great few nights out! There local drink shot they have is the worst thing I have ever had and they have it like water, no wonder there are lots of trouble up in that area! It is on the other hand a nice ... read more

After a good night at the sled dog place, I woke up early to catch a bus to Finland. The guy from France that stayed in the same cabin as I did was on the same route, so we ended up travelling together for a couple days. We got on the bus in Karasjok, and within 20 minutes we were in Finland. Our destination was a town called Sodankyla which would break the long to journey to Rovaniemi. There was very little to see in Sodankyla, but one of the best things I did see was smaller prices at the supermarket. Norway bashed me to pieces in terms of budget, but I could tell Finland was going to smooth things out a bit. We spent a pretty uneventful night in Sodankyla and woke on Sunday morning ... read more

Matkustaminen kotiin sujui suun... read more

Sorry to the followers of the Blog, but the nearest PC was a bus journey away and the bus was only once an hour and it worked out quite expensive to do. Since we last logged on, we have managed to try our hand at ski-ing, with Kira having a lesson on her own. We were quite content to muddle through ourselves, and Russ and Graham tried snow boarding. Russ decided it wasn't for him in the short time we had and went back to the skis, but Graham persevered. We bought a lift pass, and tried to frighten ourselves to death on some of the more challenging slopes. We all "wiped out" at least once on the way down! Kira did really well, and seemed to enjoy herself. The cold weather at the beginning of ... read more

So, I just got back from the Rotary Lapland tour, and I'm ready to tell you all about it! However, I'm going to start from the last time I updated. So, on Monday I was absolutely exhausted and I practically slept through my first class. I went to my Finnish class with Christine but again there was no one there. We were both really pissed because that was the second time in a row that had happened. So, since we didn't have class we went shopping. At night Jari's aunt and uncle came from Helsinki. We had a really big dinner and his aunt had brought homemade bread. It was REALLY good. Since they had come so late I had to miss basketball practice, but it was ok. On Tuesday night after dinner Ros-Mari, Jani, and ... read more

We are here! Our cabin is really lovely, and all our reservations about the facilities were unfounded, as they seem to have thought of everything. There's even a washing machine and drying machine for wet ski clothes. We were collected by the reps on the first day to go to the welcome meeting, and taken to the "Ski Bistro". They didn't however arrange for us to get back, so we caught the local ski bus into Ruka centre to do some shopping and plan which activities we would like to do. We have decided to try and book they ourselves rather than through Crystal, which acording to the websites was easy. However it has proved a little more challenging than we anticipated, and we have had to ring up some companies and tourist information have not ... read more

Friends. Snow. Huskey Dogs. Snow. Reindeer. Snow. Long bus rides. Snow. Snow. Snow. SNOW! So I spent this last week in Lapland with 130 other Rotary Exchange students! The charter bus picked me and a bunch of other Turku Area exchange kids up at 7:10 Friday, November 31. I met up with Rick (from Illinois) first then Dorothee (from Germany) and Eddy (Mexico) then we met Eric (Germany), Max (America), and Jess (Australia). We headed north, and picked up many more kids on the way. Ellen and Sarah got on in Pori and Nonqaba (South Africa). Ellen and I sat together for a while, Max and Rick sat together behind us, and Sarah, Non, and Jess were in the seats sorrounding us. We talked and got hyper and crazy from all the candy, listened to our ... read more

The third and final full day in Lapland, I again saw how magical the Arctic Circle can be. I thought the magic ended with being in two different places at once, but I was wrong. This time, we found a portal that took us to another world! Narnia! (Ok so, we were really in a national park - but it really did feel like Narnia) Before we ventured out, we checked in at the national forest office to see what trails, if any, we could go on. We were told that we would need either snowshoes or skis to get to most paths, but there was one that we could go on without the shoes or skis. We were told, however, that there was an avalanche pass that we would have to be careful as ... read more
