Sorry for the late posts. Our internet has been out for the last day or so.
Anyway, the bar crawl last night was wonderful. We all had a lot of fun, and it would be incorrect to say that we went to bed early. As such, we didn't really get out and movinguntil noon today. We first went to get food, which, for the second time in 2 weeks, ended up with a full fish on the table in front of me. To be fair, it was trout. And delicious.
After that, we headed up to Prague Castle, which is one of the most important parts of Prague. Partly because the various countries and empires that occupied this region have been ruled from there for several centuries. It has a huge cathedral, along with a village (where Franz Kafka lived for a bit), a few towers (and dungeons), and, of course, all kinds of great halls and master chambers and throne rooms and such. It's not an easy site to get to, since it's on top of a hill, but it was well worth it.
We managed to kill about 5 hours there, before
we left to go find food for dinner. That ended up not working out, since we got split up and spent the better part of an hour trying to find each other. The issue was that we had a time constraint, and European dinners take a long time.
The time constraint was well worth it, though. One thing we've seen all around Prague is a bunch of ads and flyers for organ and orchestra concerts in different churches and cathedrals and monasteries. We thought that since they're everywhere, we should go to one. So we booked one for8:00, but since we couldn't find dinner and some of the group were extremely hungry, it ended up just being Marie and Samii that came with me to it. I have absolutely no regrets, though; it was absolutely amazing. We were in a hall in a monastery right near the Old Town. The performers were a string quartet and an impressive soprano opera singer.
The lineup: Vivaldi's Stabat Mater and Spring from The Four Seasons; Händel's He Shall Feed His Flock from Messiah; Pachelbel's Canon; Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik; Bach's Air & Gavotte; Verdi's Chorus of the
Hebrew from Nabucco and Preludio and Brindisi from La Traviata; Mascagni's Intermezzo from Cavaleria Rusticana; Bizet's Overture, Intermezzo, and Habanera, all from Carmen; Dvorák's Slavonic Dance #8 and Song to the Moon from Rusalka; Brahms' Hungarian Dance #5. Not a single piece was disappointing, which was especially wonderful, because the entry to the venue and the size of the audience both left something to be desired.
After the concert, we went and found our own dinner, where I tried svičková. As weird as it sounds, it was delicious. We also had some caramelized apple-pancake-rum-ice cream thing for dessert, which was equally delicious. Then, of course, I came back to find that, at long last, the internet was working again, so I finally got the chance to post for the past days and check emails.
Tomorrow morning, though, we're up and going because, unfortunately, we leave the city at 2.
