COLD tour

Nancy went to one conference session and then worked in the library the rest of the day. Bill worked there until noon and then went on the tour of Prague with other interested seminary librarians who are attending the conference.

Bill writes --

I joined the others at the reception center a little after one this afternoon. About twenty-five people went on the tour and it was cold, coLD, COLD. One of the women in the group saw a thermometer and it read -9C which I roughly calculate to be about 16F ... and a nasty breeze was blowing. We visited the St. Vitus Cathedral and then walked down the hill and across the Charles Bridge. The day was very overcast, not a good day for pictures. Our next stop was the Bethlehem Chapel. Here one hundred years before Martin Luther began the reformation Jan Hus preached the same message. There were no seats in the chapel and when Hus preached he preached to 3000 standing people. Naturally he got into big trouble with the Roman Catholic authorities and some years later was burned at the stake. In the 1990's the Roman Catholic Church conducted an investigation into the preachings of Hus which resulted in their expressing regret for the church's mistake in branding Hus as a heretic and killing him even though he had been promised safe passage by the church. I believe his death was in 1415. Our last stop was the Old Town Square and by then most of us had experienced about all the fun we could stand for the day and so we returned to IBTS to thaw and eat our evening meal.
