We're on the train going to Landeck Zams, sadly it's our last stop in Austria. The train ride is beautiful. We missed the majority of it on our way to Zell as it was already after dark when we left Innsbruck. Attached are a couple pictures from the train. I am quite content sitting here drinking buttermilk and eating Milka chocolate. Yesterday we had a 'Brad style' day of relaxation. We spent the morning in a cafe drinking coffee and eating apfelstruddel and kasstruddel. Then went to the Taurern Spa. A ridiculous building with about 10 different heated pools and 10 saunas. My favourite part was the kids waterslide, Brad liked the alpine meadow sauna. I reaffirmed that I'm terrible at sitting still and 'relaxing'. It also didn't help that we weren't sure what the rules ... read more

We are in Kitzbuhel, Austria - today we see some old friends who have moved here 2 years ago from San Diego. We found our way to Kitzbuhel through the green mountains, perfect little villages and the big mountain called Kaiser. Our friends Izzy and Andrea have a cute little apartment in the middle of town. They look very fit and happy. They climb, bike or hike something big everyday. Andrea took Andrew for a mountain bike ride up the Hahnankamm. Andrews version was that Andrea easily glided up the mountain like the Virgin ascending to heaven. I hiked it with Izzy and was proud to make it alive and without the need of oxygen at the top. We stoped at a place called Seidel Alm, at the top of the mountain which means "hut as ... read more

Our trip to Kitzbuhel Austria (including Munich, Salzburg, and Rothenburg) We returned from our trip a couple of weeks ago. It couldn't have been better! Friday, February 22nd: Met the group at SFO for our flight on Lufthansa from San Francisco non-stop to Munich. Everyone was already having beers at the pub! After a couple of hours and our usual stop at Ebisu in the international terminal for one last Udon Bowl, we were off. Our seats were together, but the back of the section without being able to recline. Not great, but actually the flight went very quickly and before we knew it we landed in Munich around 6pm the following day, Saturday, February 23rd. After a two hour uneventful busride to Kitzbuhel, were were there at the Hotel Tiefenbrunner! (A few beers in the ... read more

More Ski School and Italian Ping-Pong Ski School: Part Deux Yesterday we woke up with plans to attend another day of ski school. Kel was a little trepidatious about more skiing due to the fact that her legs were very tired but she decided that it couldn’t hurt to try. Thus, after breakfast we rested with plans of returning to Reith for our 1:30 lesson. With lunch in our bellies we headed back to the Reith ski school and hoped that we would be able to get Aloise for lessons again. Luckily his previously scheduled lesson was canceled again so he was free and therefore could give us the two hour lesson that we were looking forward to. Aloise met us on the slopes and proceeded to get us warmed up with a few exercises ... read more

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, PLEASE Let it snow!!! I’m not sure if people back in the states hear as much about global warming as we have in the past 3-5 weeks but let me elucidate quickly on why we have been hearing as much as we have. Germany, Austria and Switzerland have gone for quite a long period without any moisture at all. No rain, no snow, nothing! This has turned out great for us as we have traveled during a (usually) notoriously rainy nasty period of winter without a drop of rain. The bad part of this is that ski resorts throughout the area have been having real bad times. No cold + no snow equals no skiing. No skiing equals no tourists and little money coming to resorts during one of ... read more
