Today we officially left Germany for the last time and crossed into Austria. We began our day with a walking tour of the Melk Abbey. The Melk Abbey was originally founded by the Benedictine monks in the 11th century and has been in continuous operation up to the present day. There are currently 24 Benedictine monks living on the premises and it still operates a Catholic School in most of the building for several hundred students. It is considered a private school since the education is Catholic and it charges a tuition of 104 Euros per month. The building was expanded to its current size and baroque architecture in the 17th and 18thcenturies. We arrived in Krems an der Donau on Saturday afternoon and after settling into our hotel room, walked down the main street of the town. The shops were open as were the wine bars and restaurants. Krems is situated at the beginning of the Wachau (Eastern part), a beautiful part of the Danube Valley and on the confluence of the Krems and Danube Rivers. The Wachau valley is well-known for it's good wines, especially white wines and in particular Grüner Veltliner (Perfect Stranger). Nyt on tää Itävallan vaihto puolivälissä. Aika on kyllä mennyt yllättävän nopeasti, varmaan just sen takia, että koko ajan on jotain ohjelmaa. Täällä on kevätkin jo pitkällä. Melkein kaikissa puissa on lehdet, kukkia on joka puolella (voikukat valtaa nurmikoita!) ja muutenkin on tosi vihreää ja keväistä. Krems on siitä mukava paikka, että luonto on lähellä. Viiniviljelmäkukkuloille ja Tonavan varteen pääsee hetkessä ja tuolla Wachau Valley:ssä on kiva käydä pyöräilemässä. Sain tosiaan pyörän lainaksi ja oon päässy ajelemaan sillä ympäriinsä. Koulumatkaankin menee enää n. 10minsaa kun ei tarvii kävellä. Oon kerenny kans vähän reissailemaan täällä. Maaliskuussa käytiin päiväretkellä Bratislavassa. Ihan kiva kaupunki, mutta ei siellä ollu kauheesti nähtävää. Yks päivä riitti siis aivan loistavasti.
