The photos that I wasn´t able to put up earlier. I have more on my little crap camera from when we went to another island. There was tons of rain and so much mud. I will try to post them next time. I will also give a better update when I have more time. ... read more

So I have a ton of pictures to post, but both computers I have been on either didn´t have usb plugs or they just don´t work and I am not going to try to switch again. So the picuters will just have to come later. The plan was originally to stay in Puerto Viejo for a night and continue to Bocas in the morning. On the ride from San Jose we met up with some Aussie blokes who were going to the same place and ended up staying for four nights. Crazy party the first night, good drinking the next two and Australia Day yesterday. We stayed at Rocking J´s which is a wicked hostel with tons of people from all over the world. Met a guy from Kalidascope Pizza in Medford the first day. The ... read more

We tried to like the archipelago of Bocas Del Toro, we really did. The problem was that, because of new year, we ended up spending way too much time there. Just as we started to like it, something else would go wrong. Our room on the first island, Isla Colon (nice name!), was a bit grimy and very overpriced but as it was only a few days before new year it was all we could find. The rain was lashing down for a full day. Adding to this, the locals warned us of the vicious sand flies which can leave nasty itchy bites for weeks or even months - eeeek! Where had we come to?!! At least the town was quite nice and had a great party scene which seemed much safer and less seedy than ... read more

Tonight I am in San Jose, Costa Rica after a long bus ride from Bocas del Toro. On Thursday the sun brok through the clouds around noon and 6 of us haggled for a boat and snorkling gear to take us out to the other islands. For about $13 each, we got a boat and a guide and snorkel gear for 5 hours. We crossed a wide area of water and zipped in between some small island of brush along some canals. The first stop was Dolphin Bay, but we found no dolphins (they were reportedly on lunch break!) and after circling a bit, and seeing some coral, headed to a Cay where we found a palapa hut out over the water with a rickity narrow dock and cheap beer. We climbed down a ladder into ... read more

¡Hola! This morning I am in Bocas Town, on Isla Colon, in the province of Bocas del Toro, Panama. Since I last wrote, I´ve had a lot of adventures! Tuesday morning I finished writing my blog just as Rachel woke, and after she showered we walked a few blocks to the main street. I popped into Habla Ya, a local spanish school, and was able to arrange for an hour long private lesson. Rachel was interested, and so we agreed to take the class together after having some breakfast. We ate a very Panamanian place, with small tables and a friendly young man who served us. Our lesson started at 10:15, and we had a great time with the teacher, who spoke little english. We first practiced the pronounciation of some survival spanish phrases (¨where is....?¨ ... read more

Hola amigos y amigas! Sarah and I have finally made it to Bocas del Toro, Panama, as far south as we plan to jouney. We´ve just noticed that the Canadian dollar is not holding up well against the American counterpart, which is what they use in Panama. I was surprised to learn that Panama officially uses the American dollar as their currency. They used to use balboas, but found the coins heavy and inconvenient. Somethng tells me there´s more to it, but I´ll leave it at that. We began our travels in Guatemala City. we arrived late Saturday night without having secured ourselved a place to stay. We avoid planning like the plague. The finding a place to stay part turned out to be easier than expected. The finding an ATM and paying the taxi driver ... read more
