it's overcast and raining for the...i don't know, 4th straight day, maybe. everyone has been bundled up and we send the kids out to play and run around for a few minutes here when the rain lets up. there's supposed to be rain for i think 4 more days, so says the forecast. we have more babies on the way. i'm realllllly missing having friends my own gender and age to talk with about life and the Bible and everything that goes along with that. so, girls from home, i think it's time you plan a little trip. ok sounds great. and i got a spot of ringworm on one of my ribs. and a little girl jumped out of a crib about ten minutes ago and almost knocked out one of her bottom teeth. with ... read more

NOTE: I just read this over after posting it and noticed a bunch of typing mistakes and awkward phrasing...but I'm not going to go through and fix it. At least I can feel better now that I've mentioned that. haha... Where do I even begin?! I.LOVE.MY.LIIIIIIIIIFE. Hard times don't matter in comparison to the good times. What's interesting about that is I so cherish the times I'm feeling so low and so driven to the Lord. So I love both fun times and tough times. I am already so sad that I'm leaving Jamaica one day. I'm having these rich experiences and soaking them up, feeling my heart grow as more people climb inside of it, and I am glad that I don't know what my future holds. My little world in Jamaica is growing, if ... read more

other than anything good or fun i've written or thought of writing...because there is SO MUCH to say about the daily goings on of life here... i am going to copy and paste an email i just wrote to someone, someone i hardly know but i just had to get it off my chest, and i want everyone else to know it, too. i'm going to say it's not really a big deal but really...it has been a big deal to me and i just prefer to try and write it off like it doesn't really matter when it's something that's driven me to tears lately. and i know i'm a sap and i cry easily over lots of things ..but sometimes i really do cry over stuff that matters...all that to say...here's my little email: ... read more

i'm serious. martika, who is five and up past her bedtime, was in one of the bathrooms just now. when she came out, i asked her what she was doing in there and to show me what she had done, because she isn't supposed to play in the bathrooms, clearly. she said, like all jamaican children do, "my doodoo was comin' down!" so she took me in there and i had her flush the toilet and start to wash her hands. there was a huge cockroach by the toothpaste and we both screamed and jumped back laughing and i smashed it with my shoe and i am telling you, toothpaste and guts came out of that thing and smeared all over the wall. ...or maybe there was just toothpaste on its outsides because i tried smashing ... read more

I walked back to school after lunch with our last boy to finish eating... the kids at our school out here in the country have a pretty long break for lunch, and when they're done eating, they wait for the principal or teacher/s to return. So what do they do? RACE! No wonder so many of the kids are so lean and muscular looking. For at least a half hour, they SPRINT back and forth across the huge lawn behind their school racing each other. They talked me into racing a couple of times, but I don't do so well running on a full stomach. I don't know how they do it. Oh, maybe it's because they do it every single day. They even run barefoot or just in their socks. They're considered tough if they ... read more

Right now baby an I are cooing and kissing faces. Before I fed him, I had to suck snot out of his nose because he couldn't really breathe and he has this awful cough...poor struggling baby. I was supposed to be in charge while the recent team of volunteers was here this week, so that he wouldn't be exposed to even more germies...so one day I held him in the cloth baby wrap from 8:something or 9AM until 10/10:30PM. Fabulous. I'm even holding him now as I type! I'm online so late at night right now because we haven't had internet at the house in a while, so I waited while Amanda got caught up on some of her internet stuff, and my turn began at 12:30AM, which I don't mind, since baby is in such ... read more

I GOT TO DRIVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE IN JAMAICA! ...from montego bay to negril!! what a trip that was...driver seat on the right side and driving on the left side of the road. i did super great. except for the time where i was doing a three point turn and when i had the car perpendicular with the direction of the road, i put the car from reverse to PARK instead of drive and a car was coming. haha. he honked at me. and it was funny. we went cliff jumping for free at rick's cafe in negril and it was suuuuper fun. as soon as i decided i knew i wanted to jump of the highest one, i just walked up ... read more

Already, it is SO much better than it was last night. The main person I was struggling with from yesterday, it seems, miraculously changed over night. I'm serious. We've been talking all morning, working on things together here and there. I FEEL like the cloud is gone/the weight has lifted. Last night, I meant to tell a couple of funny stories from the past two days... When we were returning from our day off, Julaine's rental car was puttering out...as my cousin Ryan would say, it probably needed more "transie fluid"...us girls had to try pushing the car up the curvy, ROCKY hill up to the house. It was a hilarious task, let me tell you. Finally, I went up to the house to get Sefton, who had just returned from night school and was sitting ... read more
