Hola amigos! Ok, so I got here in one peace after 2 loooong flights. Got to the airport Wednesday morning, thanks again for taking me Papsi und Mamsi), and discovered staight away that my flight was delayed, 30 minutes, not much of a problem. Knowing well enough from experience that 30min is usually not quite accurate because ailines dont want to scare you away, so I already got a bad feeling about making my connections. Anyway, got on the plane to Atlanta, had a my own row of 3 seats, which was great, but it also came with a big dutch family next to me, who was very noisy!!! So, next thing I discovered, the screens didnt work, no TV for 10 hours!!! And I couldnt sleep!! Great! 10 long hours later, well actually 11 with ... read more

This going to be a two day entry to kinda get caught up because I wasn't able to blog yesterday. So, I am very sad, we left Jaco yesterday I could have easily stayed another few days. I felt like our trip was just beginning when we left. I also did not get to see as much of the beach as I would have liked but we did get to see a lot of the little beach town. I also forgot to mention that the first day we got there after I went to the beach, I became a buffet for the sand fleas and chiggers!! My legs look awful, all full of bites. Benadryl cream did not even help the itching. I sat in the pool at our hostel with my legs in the pool ... read more

we are now back in san jose the rest of our time was pretty uneventful in panama. we hung out with sophie some more after she got back from san blas. we went to a bar called unplugged with p and jessica. the music there was really friggin loud. so we left went to a salsa bar where jessica a half phillipino proceeded to teach me how to dance salsa. how pathetic is that. mike couldnt take any more salsa so he went back and the three of us snuck into a club called kraze. after one beer i realized i couldnt take another so we were all pretty trashed so we went home. the next night me, mike, sophie, p, jessica and a girl called jenna went out to calle uruguay and went to a ... read more

I'm sitting here in the hostel in Costa Rica. We finally made it here about 430p. It was a very long bus ride from Panama City. So we caught the bus at midnight using what very little spanish I knew...HAHA! We got to the border about 7a and we had to get off the bus and have our passports stamped that we were exiting Panama and then we WALKED across the border into Costa Rica. That was crazy!! We walked about a block and realized that we really didn't know what we were supposed to do so we had found some ladies that spoke english. They helped us out and showed us the line that we needed to stand in so we could our passports stamped coming into Costa Rica. So, we are looking at this ... read more

Hello my name is Kyle, and guess what? Since my dad is taking so long to get these December blog posts written, I get to write one for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This segment of our blog is about the clinic giving out shoes to some of the kids in the communities the clinic serves. My Grandma Linda from California went around to all of her friends and family and collected money in order to buy the shoes. Before my grandma got here we told people to give us the size of their kids' shoes so we would know what sizes to get. We took requests for more than 200 pairs of shoes.(WOW!!!!!!!!!!!) With our grandma Linda, DR.Christian, Dayan, my mom, my dad, my brother and I went into downtown SAN JOSE. It was funny because there were tons ... read more

Day 10 - That’s all she wrote. One by one, our group disappears onto shuttles that drop them off at the airport. We’re sort of like the leaf-cutter ants. A trail leads from the hotel to the plane, each ant carrying a burden way out of proportion to its size. I say a tearful goodbye to Kirk. And then Virginia and I head to the dining room for hot chocolate and conversation. Back in my room, I packed and repacked, napped, and then it was time for me to go. This has to have been—for many reasons—one of the best vacations of my life. The question is where shall I go next? ... read more

Day 3. The adventure begins. A sloth, its fur matted, looking a bit disheveled, arches its back and stretches its arm, hooking a stem with a long curved claw and reeling in a leafy snack. Not three feet away from where we stand. It has made its way down almost to the ground and now hovers about two feet off the ground. At the Braulio Carrillo National Park, Howler monkeys roam the forest canopy. Black vultures, their wingtips manicured in white, glide in effortless, lazy circles overhead. A huge three-inch spider crouches unmoving, a patient host for the unwary. A tiny gray-brown viper coils near the roots of a plant on the edge of a sea of green foliage. Nope—we’re definitely not in Kansas. The country has built an aerial tram to transport visitors into the ... read more

Day 1. I have arrived. At first the landscape from the air looks little different than that surrounding almost any large city, a simple quilt of lands that has been cleared for agriculture and commerce. But as we approach the airport and homes spring up topped by corrugated tin roofs, the scenery announces we aren’t in Kansas anymore. After traveling a large part of the night—either flying or waiting in air ports—I touch down in San Jose, Costa Rica about 11:30 am Fri. Nov. 11. After zipping thru customs and collecting my sole piece of luggage, I stroll outside and am met by a rep of Caravan Tours who puts me on a tour van headed toward out hotel with a fellow tour guest. The Barcelo Palacio, where we are met by our tour guide, Virginia, ... read more
