Our 5 days in Dominical were full of rest and relaxation on the verandah overlooking the ocean and poolside, though we did manage to adventure some in the area too. We spent several evenings on the beach watching the sunset and boogie boarding. One day included another horseback riding trip for Mom, Dad, Jeff and Nikki; this time Nikki rode her own (Din was his name), out to the Nauyaca Falls near Dominical. Shae spent a few hours swinging in a hammock at Las Rocas, which is an adventure in and of itself here in the the jungle ; ) ... read more

“Pura Vida” is a common figure of speech here in Costa Rica which means “Pure Life”. It’s used much like “This is the Life”, “Life’s a Beach”, or even “Hang Loose” back home. We’ve found ourselves using this phrase quite a bit in the last couple of weeks as, in its entirety, this trip has been absolutely incredible and each day leaves us feeling like this is in fact life in its purest form. As you may have noticed, we’ve been unable to update our blog in the last several days. We’ve experienced a hiccup in being able to connect to the wireless network. While in part this has been a bit disappointing, as we’ve enjoyed being connected to our friends and family back at home, it’s also come as a welcomed relief. In the absence ... read more

There is only 1 reason to go to this town of 100 people: surfing We had a fun few days here with a mixed crew of Aussies, Dutch, Americans, Israelis, and Canadians, but with one common goal: a good wave. Unfortunately, the swell wasn’t very big while we were there so entertained ourselves with lots of rum and dancing. There was a huge tree that had fallen over on the beach on which we would sit in the evenings and watch the sun set. We saw a Tico with a huge Iguana over his shoulder which he claimed he had caught for dinner and tasted like chicken. He then proceeded to get on the public bus with the giant thing. One night a guy invited us to celebrate his 60th birthday with him by watching his ... read more

In Domincal we had checked into a place without a kitchen, tired of this our last night in Domincal we decided to go down the road to Domincal Backpackers, a true hostel with bunk beds and a kitchen. Although we were the only people staying at the house things appeared to be fine and we continued with our daily routine of lying on the beach and walking to town. As the evening settled in so did we, or at least we tried...We discovered that the lights in the bathroom did not work (in additional to the fact that there were no toilet seats!), this was a concerning find. The hostel didn’t exactly lock either, to get through the front doors, you had to buzz yourself in from the building next door. Also the upstairs was ... read more

Hello all - Well, this is my last blog for the season. I'm sitting right now in the airport waiting for my flight to New York. Vomit. Basically, I was a moron and booked one flight from 12:30 to 5:00 pm and the other from 5:30 AM (AM!?!?!) to 8:30. Again, vomit. I've got a long night ahead of me here in Fort Lauderdale... and can you believe the closed all of the resturants (what I'm I supposed to eat? And I want coffee!). Anyway, so I've got all night to go on and on and on... Last week I took sometime away from my monkey playground in the clouds and went to the beach... Dominical. It was entirely awesome. The roads aren't paved. The beach stretches forever in both directions. The forests and the palms ... read more

Steve - We saved the best until last. This for both of us was definately the highlight of Costa Rica. We had found Cabinos Pacific Edge on the internet and thought it would be nice to book in somewhere nice for the last few days even though it was slightly over budget. Although it looked nice on the website, we had no idea quite how nice. The views were stunning and despite seeing them everyday you could not get tired of them. The area was beautifully landscaped with butterflies and hummingbirds flying around the garden. We also had a brilliant cabin with a large balcony to spend our evenings on. It was Happy Days. The best part of it all was the owners George and Susan, they were brilliant. Susan was from Hollywood and George was ... read more

English speakers, you know the drill by now... Ils n'entendent ... read more

Buenas! I am titalated that you guys are enjoying our journey. Although I am falling a bit behind with these posts, I will not be deterred (I am typing this one on my iphone!). It feels a little strange hunting down computers to reconnect with the digital world when I am surrounded by such non-digitalness. I have a self-imposed conflict about it actually. Part of me says,¨swoop into analog!¨ and experience every moment without distraction. But a seemingly stronger voice yanks me back to the computer to spew out my thoughts and experiences. I really think it helps digest and process life when you are forced to explain it. Otherwise lovely moments and profound life lessons can evaporate without really sucking all the goodness out of them. Annnnnyway, After Corcovado, we took a string of ridiculous ... read more
