I could sit here and tell you about our first day in costa rica....over head high barrels and blue sky's but i thought this would be nothing compared to the story of how we got here. It started yesterday morning at 'David', we were 'stuck' at a hostel waiting for the terrential rain to stop so it would be safe to hit costa rica. Our plan at that time was to head quite far into the depths of costa rica on a 9hr busride to San Jose, we got to the bus stop and it had been cancelled. after a brief chat we decided to head to Pavones, one of the best left hand waves in the world and very close to the panama border. we crossed the border without a hitch and got on a ... read more

I just got back to the States from Dominical, Costa Rica, where everyday promised new and exciting adventures. We stayed at this adorable bed & breakfast called The Necochea Inn, which I highly recommend because of the staff’s high level of hospitality and off-the-hook gourmet breakfasts! It’s also a wonderful place to stay while you’re vacationing there because the staff can arrange for you to participate in all these amazing activities, like horseback riding on the beach, snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, and zip lining. And while you’re there, you can hear the soothing sounds of the tropical rainforest, like echoes of cicada bugs and moving waters. The Necochea Inn is so beautiful, and provides the perfect amount of comfort to relax you at the end of your daily outdoor adventures in Dominical, Costa Rica. After a ... read more

Very early start today followed by a drive to the boat hire centre. The group was split into two groups one in a large fast boat and one in a smaller faster boat (but was travelling rather slow due to the large waves). Once again the captains competed to get their boats to jump the highest over the waves - not pleasant. most people had their heads over the edge of the boat or between their knees before a single dolphin was spotted. Eventually we saw the dolphins - it seemed as thought they were showing off to us as they back flipped through the air! One group also saw Black tuna, Frigate birds, brown boobies and a Yellow bellied sea snake. Unfortunately no Whales although a Hump back was spotted yesterday. We were all rather ... read more

Today - day 3! another early start of 8am! Most people made it to breakfast except Abi and I.. Oops. Down to the beach at 9 for a few hours. I think most people would agree the surf was very strong and not really your average sunny beach. But we all had a good time playing in the sand or trying to get a tan(Miss Slade... and me)! And Dan got rather red. Dr Penny prefered to take pictures of the wasps rather than attending to his sons rapidly swelling arms from the stings while the vultures waited above and Matt's sandy eye - Miss Slade attended to the casulties. Abi and I had fun looking at the traditional beach market getting harassed by the sellers although we bought nothing. Lunch was the Costa Rican speciality ... read more

So I wanted to go see the Nauyaca waterfalls while I was here in Dominical, but I didn't want to pay he $40 dollar tour fee for the horses. This one time my cheap nature kicked my ass. Then again it was well worth it. We got up @6 and headed to the bus stop. Now I say bus stop it was more like a ricity bench that had tetnus writting all over it, so we stood next to it. Either way we had to head toward San Isidro on the bus and get off half way in between. Locating the signs we notified the bus driver and he let us off. About a half a mile more down the road was the entrance to where we were headed. So we walked. Bought our tickets for ... read more

Its about 6 oclock and I am sitting on an enormous tree in the middle of what is now a desolate stretch of rocks and wet black sand relfecting clouds above, otherwise known as a beach. Sitting there gazing into sky in front of me, clouds illuminated orange, blue and purple, waves crashing in the distance, and beams of gold shooting through the air. This was a sunset to beat all sunsets, close to the one I watched in keywest a few years back. Reminissing of the last two days events and remembering the joys I had on this trip thus far. Thoughts of being stranded at the bus station for 4hrs yesterday listening to the ever rotating groups of preachers that would post up when the crowd grew to standing capacity, or hords of dogs ... read more

In Domincal we had checked into a place without a kitchen, tired of this our last night in Domincal we decided to go down the road to Domincal Backpackers, a true hostel with bunk beds and a kitchen. Although we were the only people staying at the house things appeared to be fine and we continued with our daily routine of lying on the beach and walking to town. As the evening settled in so did we, or at least we tried...We discovered that the lights in the bathroom did not work (in additional to the fact that there were no toilet seats!), this was a concerning find. The hostel didn’t exactly lock either, to get through the front doors, you had to buzz yourself in from the building next door. Also the upstairs was ... read more

Hello all - Well, this is my last blog for the season. I'm sitting right now in the airport waiting for my flight to New York. Vomit. Basically, I was a moron and booked one flight from 12:30 to 5:00 pm and the other from 5:30 AM (AM!?!?!) to 8:30. Again, vomit. I've got a long night ahead of me here in Fort Lauderdale... and can you believe the closed all of the resturants (what I'm I supposed to eat? And I want coffee!). Anyway, so I've got all night to go on and on and on... Last week I took sometime away from my monkey playground in the clouds and went to the beach... Dominical. It was entirely awesome. The roads aren't paved. The beach stretches forever in both directions. The forests and the palms ... read more
