I invited Elvis to join me on Caye Caulker for my last day if he didn't have any tours to run. Elvis has lived an amazing life, and I felt very lucky to spend another day with him. He has a great entrepreneurial spirit, and full of ideas. I definitely think there is a market on C.C. for beach chairs, and after asking a few women, we all agreed it would be a money maker....hmmm....possible future endeavour??? Our agenda for the day was doing my laundry and having a lobster burger at Marin's. Elvis had run many tours around the island out to the reef, but had never actually set foot on the island. Now I was HIS guide! Elvis thought it was great that you could see the ocean on both sides, standing dead centre ... read more

After a long day, I am as snug as a bug in my hammock...PJ's on, & wrapped in 2 blankets. Emily left this morning for Dangriga...the only good thing about her leaving is I now get her blanket as well! She is a great woman, and I really enjoyed our time together. Ebony & Ivory is what we were called by some rastaman! Her and I shared a few chuckles about that one! Being so close to the ocean, the breeze is a little chilly this evening, but I am enjoying the full moon peaking thru the palm leaves as I write. Caye Caulker is a great little isle. So small you can walk it in about 2 hours. The streets are lined with small hotels, restaurants, bars, tour shops, etc. Many rest. and bars have ... read more

Caye Caulker is totally laid back and just what I needed after busy Belize City, where the sidewalks are narrow, ditto for the streets, and things are happening around you so fast that my brain couldn't keep up with the sounds, people, smells, & scenery all at once...talk about multi-tasking! I dashed back to my hotel in Belize City to quickly pack after my last blog. Simon and I maneuvered the nutso Swing Bridge intersection. The Swing Bridge was built in 1923, and the only operational hand cranked bridge (I think in the world), this happens so that the taller boats can go thru the canal. By the time I got to the Water Taxi Terminal to take me here I was totally soaked, and promptly sat down in front of a fan so big, I ... read more

Man, talk about a place for chilling out. If you're looking for that, Caye Caulker, Belize is the island for you! We spent about a week here. First of all, let me say that I hardly took any photos here. I pretty much took them on the first day we got here and that was it. I didn't want to be lugging around my camera on the island. I just wanted to chill, breathe in the air, and get some sun. We didn't really do much here, but sleep, eat, and party. Ok, we did go kayaking out in the sea and we did snorkel as well later in the week. Both were cool. We met some cool Europeans who we partied with. I also got to see my friend Naomi (Holland) again. She came to ... read more

Crossing to Belize wasn't much of a hassle and it took some getting used to hearing English again. After a night in Belize city we hit Ambergris Caye for our first taste of Carribean waters. The night we got in was the De la Hoya fight so we hit the local sports bar. These people were not too happy when their boy Oscar didn't show up. The next day we took a snorkeling trip to a couple spots in the reef. 50+ feet of visability & 80 degree water mixed with sea turtles, sharks, rays, millions of fish, and eels really made the day. We had an awesome guide who was really good at pointing things out, louring eels out of their caves and showing us how to wrestle with nurse sharks. We set out for ... read more

Well I hope I´m not boring you all at this stage with my updates! This part of the trip is just so action packed as we´re moving every two days. Can´t see myself being as organised and as busy when I´m going solo. We´re finally moving country! Have really liked Mexico. As you can tell its a country with so many varying activities to do. The whole day to get to Belize was bit of an eventful day. No hassles at the border but the first bus was late so it meant that we missed the next bus and therefore the last ferry to the island Caye Caulker. We had to order a private bus and boat. Lets just say crossing over in the dark in an open boat was an experience! Was all worth it ... read more

San Pedro We crossed over the border and headed for customs and immigration. We completed all the forms and got our passports stamped. We were in, no fuss, no bribes, no problems! Our first night in Belize was spent in a campground called Caribbean Village in a small town called Corozal. The site wasn’t very far from the town centre, so we headed in to get some money and some food. We managed to get some food but no money. In some countries our bank card just doesn’t work and Belize appeared to be another one. Luckily we have a back up credit card, which we managed to get some cash on but naturally it cost us a small fortune for the pleasure. The next day we were going to leave the van for a few ... read more

...here are a few more pictures from my getaway. The people were nice, the food was good, I did not do restaurants and opted for vendors to get food from, or Pirates. I do not recommend the pork chop and fried rice from there though, that was my meal the last night and I paid for it! :( You must go up to the split and catching sunrise on the east side of the island and sunset on the west are also must do's! If you meet Ambush send him my regards, you will know it's him! He's a lovely character. The reef was wonderful, I did the tour with raggamuffin' and there were only about 5 of us on the trip.. saw an eel, parrot fish, tons of sting rays, a baby nurse shark and ... read more

And I am glad that I own a camera. I stayed at Tina's right by the CC Water Taxi Dock (25bze/rt). The 45 minute taxi ride wasn't bad and thankfully it was nice that day. Although Caye Caulker is small, it is a great little island. Ambush was the one who cleaned the fish out on the pier for the Ital that was being prepared. This really did help me overcome my fear f fish. Some photos may not have been taken on the same day but they are from Caye Caulker. Photos can explain a bit better than I can at this moment. Will add more soon, be sure to check back soon! ... read more

Caye Caulker is a Caribbean island off the coast of Belize that is used my some as a base to dive the famous (in diving circles) "Blue Hole", but by most for being a place where you can feel really good about being so lazy. You step off the ferry and are greeted by the signs to "go slow". Lots of rasta-types hanging around and incredibly laid back. Belize was an English colony so everyone speaks English and greets eachother on the street: Me (to local I was passing on street): Hello. Local: Ya, mon. Caye Caulker and Belize in general is much pricier than the rest of Central America. As I result I decided against doing the PADI diving course and blue hole and instead spent the day lying on the beach near the Split ... read more
