Caye Caulker is northeast of Belize City, takes about 30 mins to get there on a fast boat Caye Caulker is a Caribbean island off the coast of Belize that is used my some as a base to dive the famous (in diving circles) "Blue Hole", but by most for being a place where you can feel really good about being so lazy. You step off the ferry and are greeted by the signs to "go slow". Lots of rasta-types hanging around and incredibly laid back. Belize was an English colony so everyone speaks English and greets eachother on the street:
Me (to local I was passing on street): Hello.
Local: Ya, mon.
Caye Caulker and Belize in general is much pricier than the rest of Central America. As I result I decided against doing the PADI diving course and blue hole and instead spent the day lying on the beach near the Split and evenings going to the Oceanside bar/club with hostel buddies following dinner and rum/pineapple mixers. Entertainment at the Oceanside there included karaoke, a rubbish covers band and reggaeton music.
DidnĀ“t manage to learn any Spanish using my grammar book while there as the place zaps one of motivation of anything except lying on the beach/hammocks. It was a lazy few days, but a
lazy few days well spent.
