Finally met up with Lizzie after a very long plane journey on her behalf. I arrived at 3:30 am in Chetumal to wake up an exhausted but happy Lizzie, and we left about 7 hours later to go to Belize. The bus was interesting as it was filled with Afro-carribeans who spoke English and Creole and suddenly my Spansih was redundant. The 5 days we spent in CC was a refreshing break as I could easily speak with locals. Belize is obviously very poor, with Belize city being very run down, dirty and generally poor. Caye caulker was beautiful. In the stunning carribean waters, it was idylic to the point that I nearly cried when we had to leave. If it wasn´t for Lizzie, I would still be lazing on the beach. The people are so ... read more

Go Slow...this is the way of life in a little paradise called Caye Caulker and also the motto of the town. This place really is unbeliveable. It is a tiny island off of Belize. First of all there are no cars (except for two service trucks) everyone just rides bikes and walks since there are only 3 streets: front, middle, and back. Every place is playing Reggae and the locals are rastas, the water is a glorious turquoise, and the food is awesome. Huge lobster fresh from the sea for $15. While on Caye Caulker I did two snorkeling trips while Bryan dived, one through Seahawk Sailing Tours, which was AWESOME. We went to three places, I saw tons of Stingrays (and held one), Baracudas, Nurse Sharks, Dolphins, a Puffer, an Octopus, a Moray (sp?) Eel, ... read more

The 7 gates of Hell Our nightmare journey takes over 36 hours for us to travel approximately 1500km (not exactly sure but it felt like much more). We start at 6am leaving Tamarindo in our trusty Toyota Yaris driving the 4 hours to San Jose. After returning the car, we realize that the bumper is actually hanging off the front of the car - thank god for fully comprehensive insurance - and by the way its not our fault that the Costa Rican government are too cheap to pave their roads! The journey continues via a two hour flight to Guatemala City, a place that we originally thought that we might spend a couple of days investigating, but nearing the end of our travels and the distances involved we decide to head straight to Belize. You ... read more

Hey girls, thanks for all the updates on KK keep them coming!!! Bobs I assure you that everything posted on here is the entire truth and I will not be publishing any further comments you make to the contrary. You have been warned! However, you are correct in your diagnosis of Pol´s Evian withdrawals; some very strange side effects! By the way did Sharon have her baby yet? Dad; did you get a pychologist for Sam yet?? CS; apologies for publishing the picture of you assaulting my father but in fairness if he wasn´t singing Purple & Gold as you requested then he probably deserved it! Ok so to continue, after 5 hours on a mini bus and a border crossing in to Belize we arrived at the marine terminal and got a water taxi (approx ... read more

We awoke at 4.30am to the trusted and familiar alarm tune and although the trip went smoothly, various stops and delays meant it was lunch time before we were stepping off the water taxi and onto another tropical paradise, Belizes Caye Caulker. Caye Caulker is very tiny island a couple of blocks wide and sits right in the middle of the 2nd largest coral reef in the world. As Belize is probably the most expensive place in Central America and we were in no hurry, we spent a bit of time finding our accommodation which was basic but all we needed. Its not hard to guess that snorkeling , diving and fishing were on offer here through out the island and after quite a bit of thought into which company and which trip we would go ... read more

The youth hostel we stayed at in Livingston turned out to be not quite so cool as we'd thought at first after all. When we arrived, myself, Sam, Angie, Sarah and an American called Miguel who we'd met in Semuc Champay we were offered a private room which could fit 3 or 4, and 2 dormitory beds. Obviously we decided us girls could have the private room (with it's own shower woo!) and the 2 boys would sleep in the dormitory. Our room had a double bed and a hammock which Angie said she'd sleep in. In the middle of the night she got out and into the bed with me and Sarah. I was convinced the reason was because Miguel had come in and said he couldn't sleep in his bed so could he have ... read more

My buddy Steve and I enjoyed a week diving at Blackbird Cay, an island that is part of the Turneffe Atoll. We flew through Miami to Belize City where we then taxied to a local hotel where we met the resort boat that took us to the resort located about 30 miles off shore. Blackbird is a nice little resort (the only thing on the island at that time) that caters to divers and fisherman. The accomodations are bungalows on the sand facing the Caribbean Sea. There were only 25 or so guests the entire time. The diving was fantastic; mostly drift diving on the barrier reef which is just offshore of the resort. No boat ride was more that 15 minutes away except for the day trip to the Great Blue Hole. Don't expect to ... read more

Quite a trek heading from Tulum to the Cayes...seems simple enough and started off on the 08.30 bus-great! Arrived at 11.30 to find there is only one bus going to Belize City at 14.45. hmmm 3 hours in chetumal...i really wouldnt recommend spending any more time here. I have developed a sligt aversion to hot, dirty towns so apologise for being completely biased throughout my writing! I just about managed to make it to Belize City with 15 minutes to spare until the last water taxi at 17.30. With the help of my friendly taxi driver, who happily relieved me of US$4 for the 2 minute ride i made it in time. At first glance Belize is a relief from the ´unfinished´ look of Mexico and to hear English is a blessing! For those of you ... read more

29/02/08 John and I intended on getting the 8.30am bus but once again my cheap alarm clock from Bangkok didn't go off. I ran to the bench outside the hostel and there was John waiting patiently. I was only two hours late...not a geat start to our journey together. John being so laid back wasn't in the least bit bothered. We got the 11.50am bus which cost $18. It was a 5hr journey but the coach was awesome. We travelled in style! John and I were the only non locals on the bus until we picked up four girls from Norway. We got talking to them when we all go dropped off at Chetumal and we decided to head straight to Belize rather than staying the night there. To be honest the girls already knew what ... read more

Last weekend was quite the Carribean weekend! I have been continuing to soak up the sun and catch up on all the amenities available to us lucky folks spending time in Ambergris Caye. PADI I finished the water portion of my open water PADI course I have been taking with Oliver on Saturday. We had 2 dives and more skills to complete. After we set up our equipment, and headed over the reef, we were quick to get in the water. I did a back roll entry for the first time (put all the equipment on, and sitting on the side of the boat, roll backwards into the water), and then Oliver and I started descending right away. Immediately I started to panic. I could breath just fine, and was equalizing my ears, but for some ... read more
