Geo: 17.1224, -61.842 Is it solitude if you spend it withe the one you love? I don't know, but what I do know is that it was perfect. Absolute turquoise perfection. Sometimes, okay, a lot of the time, it's nice to be away from it all. In fact, in perfect turquoise water, I could stay anchored out until I run out of food and water!! That's exactly what we did for our last 8 days in Antigua. We had gotten Rob to Antigua in time to meet Vicki at the airport, at which point he moved off the boat and into their rental unit for the week. We had a great birthday week with them, enjoying a beach day for Tony's birthday, some great meals together, getting Vicki out for a sail, and just plain hanging ... read more

Thursday 10th March, 2016. St John's, Antigua We went down for breakfast and then M waited to see if she had a phone signal to call Sprout who had been advised that we were coming today. Once a signal was obtained M made the call but there was no answer so she left a message. Sprout got back almost immediately and said he was already in town and would meet us at the end of the quay in 30 minutes as he was just finishing the shopping. Sprout was waiting when we disembarked some 35 minutes later. He took us to the car and then we drove over to his house. Riley, who was just a puppy last year, is now fully grown and absolutely beautiful. We had a catch up and a drink of water ... read more

15thDec ANTIGUA So lovely to be back in the Caribbean once more. Sun, sand, beaches and WARM!! Hired a car today with John and Jill and toured round the island. Took them to see Sir Vivian Richards Staduim, then to Devil’s Bridge, went swimming/snorkelling at Long Bay then down to Nelson’s Dockyards. On the way home we stopped off at a beach, just pulled in off the main road and there was a beach….all to ourselves. 2 old local guys were just sitting enjoying the view so I asked if it was ok to swim and after confirmation, Jill and I went for a lovely swim, in clear, warm water (well it was warm once you got used to it). So nice to be swimming again in salt water!! Once back at St John’s – where ... read more

Toute une expédition ... read more

These two sea days are taking their toll on the little grey cells. There are up to five trivia session a day so I won't write about our progress unless something eventful happens. I don't want you to think we come on a cruise just to play trivia. It would be cheaper to join a local pub team!! So, five trivia played. Won three. The last one was tough in as much as I knew Yaks milk is pink, Charlie Chaplin's cane was made from Bamboo and the eldest Marx brother was Harpo. Despite knowing these we still managed to put the wrong answer. When you have amassed so much trivial knowledge it's inevitable that the odd snippet will get misfiled somewhere in your brain. Although we talked ourselves out of the correct answer on several ... read more

Saturday 7th February, 2015. St John's, Antigua St John's is the capital and largest city of Antigua and Barbuda, a country located in the West Indies in the Caribbean sea. With a population of 81,799. St John's is the commercial centre of the nation and the chief port on the island of Antigua. The settlement of St John's has been the administrative centre since the islands were first colonised in 1632. We arrived much earlier than our scheduled 2 pm. We went and had a posh breakfast and then went up on deck to call Sprout, our Antiguan friend, to let him know we were early. He was taking their new puppy to the vet for its final jabs so said he would pick us up on the way back. We disembarked the ship and M ... read more

Well its been a couple of relaxing days since leaving Fort Lauderdale, quite windy and a bit of roll n roll on the boat as well, doesn't bother us though. We have met some lovely people aboard, majority Americans I think around 1500, 299 Australians, Canadians, Brazilians, Chinese from Hong Kong, Turks, English, 30 odd New Zealanders so a bit of a mix. Hutch the guy who did all our pre port lectures on our World Cruise is also on this cruise, also have met 6 passengers who were on our world cruise as well, amazing! This ship, being a third again bigger than what we have travelled on before, seems to have a lot more space, certainly more speciality restaurants and bars. Show last night was a Ballroom Show, great singing and dancing! Was formal ... read more

Today we are back in the CARIBBEAN ISLANDS! Antigua. It’s 77 degrees, humid, with soft trade winds. YES! People ask me all the time...where is my favorite place in the world? That’s such a hard question and there is no clear answer as I have found amazingly friendly helpful people all over the world. There are awesome vistas and food everywhere and history beyond comprehension in the cities and country sides of this planet. The answer for each us, lies within us. Where do you feel like you belong, where are the places in the world that touch your heart and soul? Although I love many places, topping the list is Paris, the Baltic from Copenhagen to St. Petersburg and from Oslo to Stockholm to Helsinki. Add Turkey, Italy and England. Of course no list would ... read more
