Great trip! Thanks Hong Ha. I was so pleased to hear about your trip to the waterfall and PAC Bo cave and to see those wonderful photos. When I went to Cao Ban a couple of years ago I was unable to organise anything to get to either of those places. Fortunately I really liked Cao Bang and enjoyed exploring all around the city. Now I you have inspired me to have another go.
North East - part 4 Thanks for another super blog. The waterfalls look beautiful. The human interest side of the trip, with the help you received from the truck driver and the local people is typical of the better side of human nature that sometimes happens when travelling.
Hi, Hong Ha,
This part of your trip is very exiting with experience of your vehicle stuck in the mud :). Ban Gioc Waterfall is not high but the water looks powerfull from the photos. Thank you for sharing your trip with us.
Ban Gioc waterfall The Sub-waterfall on Vietnamese side is 30m high, while the Main-waterfall is lower but it has 4 levels and it looks beautiful. The Chinese are smart enough to get the beautiful part of the waterfall because in dry season there is not much water in the Sub-waterfall.
So "yummy" Lang Son ! I have not been here yet, however i will come there before next winter
All dishes look so yummy, don't they!
so inviting things, a way to conquer tourists to a new land!
Many thanks Hong Ha for the inf.
Lang Son Great blog - what an experience! The roads remind me of a trip by road from Hanoi to Sapa in 2008. It is very interesting to read a blog like this from a native Vietnamese who can speak to the locals in remote places in their own language. I remember going to the huge market in Lang Son in 2006 and having an excellent lunch afterwards. Many thanks for bringing back these happy memories.
Hi Hong Ha,
What a trip you had :) Lang Son looks likea cool place for summer get away. The roast duck & roast pork looked delicious & the skin looked crispy, yummy :)
Affordable Cruises Ba Be is Vietnam’s largest natural lake and is now the centrepiece of an extensive National Park. The park and the surrounding area is limestone country, so lakes, waterfalls, caves and unusual rock formations abound.i always wanted to visit this lake..
Ba Be lake Thanks for another excellent blog. I've always wanted to visit this lake. Very good photos. It's good to hear that tourism has not spoiled the area since your last visit.
Interesting to see these historic places I stayed in the city of Tuyen Quang 2 years ago and really loved it. So I was interested to see the places where General Giap and Ho Chi Minh organised against the French. I've read about these events and would love to visit these places too. Do you have to go on an organised tour or can you just get a bus from Hanoi? Thanks Hong Ha for showing, again, such interesting places.
visiting Vietnam end of year for a month Have just discovered your blogs. They are fantastic and so helpful whilst I am planning my trip later this year with my husband.
So quite place is'nt it ! Hello back again,
During holidays , the place was not overcrowded isn't it .
So peaceful and quiet that is what like most.
As noticed before, RedRiver is so photogenic isn't she!!
H'mong minority in Ha Giang Thanks for the interesting story on your adventurous trip to the northernmost province. It's very interesting for me to have learned "white H'mong" in Ha Giang where the ethnic women wear skirts in white, while the other groups of H'mong people are respectively called "black H'mong", "flowery H'mong", "blue H'mong" "red H'mong" etc depending on women's skirt colours. I would speculate each group of H'mong is proud of their own color as a symbol.
I am a Hanoi_girl who loves to travel. When working for a Japanese construction company in Hanoi, I had the chance to travel to 28 countries and to all the 63 provinces in Vietnam, including 25 trips to Huế city. Egypt, Mongolia and Italy are my love, and other favorite countries are Australia, France, New Zealand, Nepal, Fiji, Japan, India, Indonesia, Belgium, Netherlands, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, China (8 trips, 15 cities), South Korea, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Cambodia (3 trips), Brunei Darussalam, the United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Laos (3 trips), Malaysia (4 trips), Singap... full info
