CHERIE TER BOGT

Hi - the kids and I are off on another one of our adventures. Not quite as big as the last trip we did, but getting out there and seeing what this world has to offer is always exciting. So stick around and see what we are up to. All I know for sure is, it's going to be amazing!!

North America » United States » Hawaii » Kaanapali June 20th 2012

OH WOW!! Now it feels like we are in Hawaii! But let me back up a step... Our day started at the Banana Bungalow with pancakes and with Jordan still complaining of stomach pain. The morning seemed to drag as today's tour to Lahaina wasn't due to leave until 12pm. We weren't the only ones on the shuttle with bags so I am not feeling so guilty now. Issac was our driver today (well of our bus, Henry drove the other one)... and what do you know, we share the same birthday :D Anyhoo, the trip to Ka'anapali (Kah - nah -parlee) was around 50 mins. On the way Issac gave us a running commentary of what we could see along the way. There was a sugar cane crop being burnt off. Apparently they are trying ... read more

North America June 19th 2012

Tuesday had arrived!! Today was the day the Banana Bungalow offered the best tour that you can do on Maui...the Road to Hana. If you're going to do anything on a visit to Maui this is it. Unless of course you're me :( Woke up with the alarm at 7am and Jordan roll over and cries out in pain. Seems he is just as bad as he was last night. So while every one else was on the road to Hana, I was on the road to the pharmacy once it opened of course. I do have to add that at least Jordan woke up. Maddy opened her eyes them closed them again. When she finally openede them about 3 hours later she asked "So when do we head out on the tour?" ... nice one ... read more

Well today was the first of the free tours were were able to attend while staying at the Banana Bungalow Hostel. Jordan opted out of the tour. He hadn't slept very well. Not surprising. The mattress he was given was wafer thin, it must have been like sleeping on the floor. So he stayed back which was sort of a bonus as we really want to go on the tour tomorrow and as you aren't alllowed to sign up for the next days' tour till after the current one has left, we got a jump on the others and a guaranteed spot. But enf about tomorrow let's talk about today. Today we met our tour guides - Nadine and Henry. They do these tours on a daily basis 7 days a week along with one or ... read more

Its' moving day!! I do have to apologise for the delay in getting the blog up. There have been issues between the blog, tablet and the internet that have made it somewhat difficult to persist at times. So scoffed down most of whatever we had left of our food. Wasn't till later that I realised we had left a bunch of fruit in the bottom of the fridge despite having looked in there several times :S Oh well We had several hours to kill. So we headed to the nearest laundromat to wash all our gear We had pretty much stuck to the same outfits all week and they were in desparate need of cleaning. Took around $10 I guess for 3 loads so it wasn't too bad I guess. By the time we were done ... read more

North America » United States » Hawaii » Kaua'i » Lihu'e June 16th 2012

Well today was our last full day in Kaua'i and I was squashing in as much as we could manage. First up - today is Fathers's Day in the States and Canada so Happy Father's Day to the few dads I do know who live in those places. OK - so today is also King Kamehameha Day and there was a parade being held in Lihue for him, so I wanted to do something 'local' rather thn touristy so off we set early this morning. We actually got away earlier than we needed to and so we headed back to Kukui Grove Shopping Centre (where Maddy & I got our great Macy's bargains) to buy a pair of toe nail clipper for Jordan who was at the point of possibly being not allowed to get on ... read more

North America » United States » Hawaii » Waimea June 15th 2012

Poor Jordan has been suffering with a head cold for the past 2 days. Thought it was just a dose of hayfever that he would get past but no. Headed up to Waimea Canyon today which is said to rival Nevada's Grand Canyon. Jordan was feeling lousy the whole way so we made a stop in Ele'ele to get him some medication - just like Oz the good stuff that actually works is locked up tight and I didnt have the right identification on me to get some for him. So we went with the 'placebos' which really were no help at all other than to give him a restful sleep - whcih really wasn't helpful considering where we were headed. Anyhoo ... the trip to Waimea was on the complete opposite side os the island ... read more

North America » United States » Hawaii » Princeville June 14th 2012

Today marked the first of our pre-arranged adventures - Ziplining at Princeville Ranch Adventures. For those of you not in the know, ziplining its like riding a flying fox, but you are strapped in to a harness and you sit the zip lol. Anyhoo ... we had 9 zips to get thru. The first was only 170' just to see if our stomaches could handle it and the last was called 'King Kong' and went for 1200' feet. First thing I have to say is that if you have an issue with heights, then this is not the adventure for you. For everyone else the views are spectacular are you sail from one end to the other, perferably 'cannonballing' to ensure you reach the other side. Tho even if you do completely as instructed, sometimes things ... read more

North America » United States » Hawaii » Kaua'i » Lihu'e June 13th 2012

Okay so Day 2 didn't quite start out the way the way I planed. When I managed to pry my eyes open it was 11am !! Whoops !! Guess we were still adjusting to the time zone change. But after a slow start, we packed up and jumped in the car and headed off to Lydgate Park. Its a really family oriententated park. There's a maze - tho we couldn't find it - a huge castle, a playground, sports ground, picnic & BBQ areas and 2 rock walled pools. The smaller one is for toddlers ... but we decided to try out the other one. The sun was warm (about 30 deg) and the water was just awesome. As we were swimming around, we did spare a thought for all of you back home, but all ... read more

Well the day has finally arrived! The kids and I were up super early (my idea so we would sleep on the plane), then a quick trip to the office to print out the rest of the travel docs cos the printer at home ran out of ink (on a public holiday no less) and then had to make a quick stop at the school to drop off some paperwork that just couldnt wait till we got back. THe kids (read Jordan) were pleased to see their friends for just a few last minutes. The taxi turned up 10 mins early which thru us all in a bit of a spin. Thankfully we were all ready to go - well the cats missed out on a top up - but there was a awful moment in ... read more

Well in 12 hours we shall be boarding a flight to Sydney and our journey will begin. I am supposed to be getting up in 5 hours, but have just realised that I missed a load of washing this weekend. The kids school clothes and judging by the smell of my son's shirt when I swiped it from his room moments ago, had I left it till we got back the results could have been disasterous!! Oh well. I'll live. Plenty of time to sleep on the plane. So I think we are all set. The only thing left is a quick trip into work to make a few copies of our travel docs. I was doing so well with this morning till the printer decided to run out of ink and refused to copy any ... read more
