Well hello again blogging buddies, from Valparaiso Chile.I am stting in my apartment on Calle Hector Calvo on the cerro Bellavista! Sun is shining on the hillside and the sea, which I can see from my livingroom. It was foggy when I arrived and time will tell if fog is part of my life here. Let me o back tou from the fog to the snow. I left Ottawa on Saturday morning very early,a 6am flight meant up at 3:45 and a cab waiting at 4:30 so leaving Ottawa was in a fog of itself.I thought I would be alone at the airport but found it crowded with vacationers heading south to sunny locales but had lots of time and a business class ticket so leisurely boarding and leg room.First flight was to Toronto and what I thought ... read more

Well blogging buddies I have made it to the airport in good time to be through the long passport control lines and security and have made it into the United Airlines frequent Flyer lounge!! A wonderful way to end the trip with some good fortune and a glass or two of Malbec. I was an Air Canada Elite frequent flyer up until feb 29th when I lost the status, having not flown enough miles in the last year. My ticket however was booked when I was top of the food chain and so with that and my charm I am in a nice comfortable chair in a quiet lounge with snacks and drinks. I love it when a plan comes together. I left Recolleta after cleaning up the apartment and meeting my landlady to get my 400 ... read more

Hello again, I have had my supper (bife de corizo, hongos, tomate, frijoles) steak, mushrooms, tomato and beans along with a Catena Malbec. It is post number two for the evening so that I can have the day free tomorrow to take care of some business with my land lady and then pack and get myself to the airport. Iguazu falls, one of the new 7 wonders of the world and truly it deserves to be there. The day starts with the bus coming to pick me up at the hotel.I have had my breakfast and am packed for the day with camera, sunscreen, plastic bags for camera protection and bottles of water. The day is cloudy though and looks like rain which is not a good thing for trying to view vistas with a camera but it is my one shot and regardless I ... read more

Good evening bloggers and my last night in Buenos Aires and Argentina. Tomorrow afternoon I head to the airport for the long flights home via Chile,Toronto then on to Ottawa. I returned yesterday afternoon from my trip up to Iguazu soaked and smiling, and I think my camera even survived the soaking that is a part of the waterfall experience and this wonder of nature. As you will recall I was heading up there without a visa for Brazil and unfortunately it was a problem and I was not allowed to cross to view from the Brazillian side. I was disappointed but ready for plan B which turned out to be a a very pleasant day trip to some semi precious stone mines and the ruins of the Jesuit Mission of San Ignacio Mini. There were ... read more

Well hello again blogging buddies,it has been a few days I know, but I can assure you I have not been idle and now that I am back in BA it is time to fill you all in on the last week. I enjoyed my visit to the Caminito in Boca as I mentioned in my blog of a week ago and so decided to go back on Sunday when I could spend more time in the daylight. The dancers, the tourists and the rehydration stations were all in full swing when I got off the 152 bus (1.25 pesos or about 30 cents).Lots of people in the sunshine and the dancers were swirling cheek to cheek and stomping in great style. I enjoyed the wandering and settled into a very comfortable little restaurant where they had two ... read more

Good morning blogging buddies, another beautiful day here in the southern hemisphere. It has been a full week and I have had computer problems, which seem to have mysteriously fixed themselves! The Ash Wednesday train crash continues to dominate the news and conversations here in the city and has even knocked the Malvinas out of the news cycles. A great deal of emotion now about responsibility and blame spreading widely between the private operators of the TBA train, the Government departments who were to look after and watchdog the running of the railways and individuals from union officials to the young operator who has survived the crash, but is in bad shape. Train transportation here has been turned over to private operators who have bid on running the service. The government oversees this (in theory) and ultimately holds responsibility but ... read more

Hello bloggers and happy carnival for those of you out there celebrating. The huge party that erupts in Rio does not spread south by all accounts, with a rather more sedate marking of the coming of lent happening in Argentina, but I will let you know if I run across any naked women or men out on the streets. I have added Uruguay to my list of passport stamps, though a quick few days in a small town on the waters edge is not really seeing a country, but hey colonial powers claimed whole tracts of land simply by setting foot on them and planting a flag for the Queen or King! I travelled here by high speed ferry from Puerto Madero. Buquebus is a travel company here in Argentina that runs the ferry service to Uruguay. ... read more

Good afternoon bloggers from a sunny and hot Buenos Aires. I know it sounds like it is always sunny and hot but by coincidence, it seems to be!! The weekend went by quickly as the days all are doing lately and today the city went back to work (did I mention I love retirement)!! I have started to make plans for a couple of trips outside of the city and will be leaving on Wednesday morning on the ferry to go to Uruguay and specifically to Colonia del Sacremento across the river from BA about an hours voyage. My trip to Iguasu should be finalized tomorrow but looks like 3 days at the end of the month. I have started to make arrangements with my land lady to meet and do the last rent business etc ... read more
