Don and I and our friends chartered a boat out of a little town as far north as you go in Washington. For one week we toured the San Juan Islands and got to see several harbors similar to Gigs. We had wonderful weather that week as well as the few days we spent in Seattle. We were very lucky.

Olympic National Forest -- almost primeval
We loved touring the rain forest. Did you see the 4 Patriots? 4 huge Sequoia trees that may be up to 2000 years old. We hiked in the forest; I swear a dinosaur could have come around the corner & it would fit in. We also got lost and Nancy thought we were doomed. Happy memories; thanks for bringing them back.

Always have loved Seattle.
Forgot I couldn't read in the car this afternoon, no internet. So just had my daily dose of your travels. You mentioned Port Angeles. I have a memory of taking a ferry to Port Angeles in thick fog when our kids were very young so it's been along time but what an experience. We never did see where we were going til we almost docked. I think mothers are to be strong and unafraid with their children. Let me tell you I was petrified. I have always been afraid of fog. Sorry to defer from your adventures of the day. Wonderful pics and loved to see that crazy beach. And a late happy birthday to Steve. Good night.

History lesson
What a wonderful history lesson this time around. Had no idea about the beauty you found yesterday. Your pictures are just beautiful and tell a story themselves.

Cool Pictures
Very cool photos! Idaho is the only state in that part of the USA that I've never been to. I'm glad that the three of you are enjoying your trip.

Chilly and beautiful.
Your morning sounded like weather here BUT we haven't been down to 39, thank goodness. Have never traveled to Idaho so anxious to read about your sightseeing. Your day was such fun to read about and as always, your blog makes me feel as tho I am in your car with you.

Winter Park
We love Winter Park. Have a timeshare there & used to go 4th of July week. Take the winding road to Estes Park. Cute little town, interesting places the eat and shop. The drive is just lovely. A very good day trip.

I looked up the Memorial, there is a great video you can view online!

Touching your heart
We have not visited this site in Oklahoma City and we should put it on our list. It can be difficult and emotionally challenging to visit places like that. Our first trip to Normandy found Ken & I Harold & Nancy standing on Omaha Beach, hugging each other & crying. It seemed the ground itself made us feel the tremendous effort of the Allies to save France.

Internal Temperatures
Trying again. We have had that temperature rise especially in the days of maps. Al gave us a trucker's Atlas that was wonderful, but it is still easy to take the wrong turn and wind up miles out of your way. Sounds like you are finding the "true middle America".

Square multi-color barn designs
I believe the square multi-color designs on barns are quilts. Instead of making a guilt from material, the quilt designs are painted on barns. Think it's a Midwest thing.

If I see anymore, I will try to photograph them. Often they are too far away.

Homesick.....
Your description of the farmlands of the Midwest almost makes me homesick to visit again. Sounds like you are having a wonderful time & finding the sights you were seeking. Missed you at Wine Club last night; I saved a very special White Burgundy to share when you get back.

Beautiful farmland
So close and yet so far! Glad you had a peek at Minnesota. Our oldest granddaughter went to Winona State this last year. Lovely small town life. And farms everywhere. You wrote about everything so beautifully. I was ready to send a wave your way and then realized you are already in Iowa tonight. Safe travels tomorrow.

UP
I like your descriptions and photos - I've never been to the UP but hope to get there next year. Sad about all of the places out of business. It is a short tourist season and not much going on the rest of the year, I would guess.

Nice trip!
Looks like you are having fun, never anything better than seeing interesting places and hanging out with old friends. Enjoy! I'd love to go to that park someday.

Doggy passport
Well, we always learn something new! I had no idea dogs needed a passport in and out of Canada. Yes, I assumed proper papers were necessary, but does it really look like we human passports? Also, never knew Super 8 was so small. But if there is a bed and its clean, it works in a pinch. Til next time, good nite.

Passport
Not really. It's just a joke. They do, however, have a right to ask for rabies shot proof.
