Port Clinton is not on the peninsula although Marblehead is. The "conduit" you referred to is a conveyor belt. In Marblehead you missed out on the oldest continuous operating lighthouse on all of the great lakes which offers breathtaking views year round.

My hometown
Great recap of your day in my birth town. Our son lives in a lovely apartment in lower town, directly across the street from former railroad office building where George worked for the Burlington Northern RR for 35 years. It’s a wonderful building restored into beautiful apartments. Great views of city and river. Again not the best weather. Hope you warm up soon. By the way, the virus is spreading in Minnesota now. Didn’t see many people with masks whole time we were up north. So I really don’t think virus is over. Anyway, your recap with photos was great. See you tomorrow.

Chilly
It’s such a shame you had bad weather today. Lake Superior is so beautiful when glistening like diamonds in the sunshine. But Duluth has cold days often and winters are horrendous when it snows and the hilly streets freeze. I guess the leaves are late turning colors this year. But in past years if we left from our cabin even early October, the colors weren’t peak. You didn’t have picture but did you see Split Rock Lighthouse? One of my favorite spots. Hope St. Paul is brighter. Not much to see but Capitol is beautiful. I quit going to Mall of America years ago. Didn’t feel safe so didn’t go. I suggest you and Steve stay together. Enjoy the day. I’m sure I don’t have to go on and on about places to see. You always seem to have done your studying ahead of time.

NO
Had to pay $20 to see the lighthouse and we felt it was not worth it just to pop in, take a photo and get back to our car.

Now you are in places we have been
Much of this route is one we have done just exploring the area and, of course, visiting Hannibal. The Snow Emergency Route is a plan to make sure that there is an evacuation plan to get in and out of a city. This route gets the first pas by snowplows -- if your car is in the way, they push it out of the way. This is a program that is announced when it is implemented. Comparing your findings on the cities that had the premium business's, 3M and John Deere, versus other small towns that are decaying away. It is all about a good job. Towns that have a place where people can go to earn a living, will prosper. In others, the young people must leave to be able to earn a living. We just need more businesses to operate in those rural environments. Always enjoy following your blogs!

Don't know much about that area.
Red Wing is whee the paddlewheel boats begin to sail down to New Orleans in 22 days. We did one of their boats from Portland Oregon to Spokane WH. Quite a unique way to travel. Honestly, don't think I know any of the towns & rivers you visited. Have been to Duluth -- and it is just gorgeous sitting on Lake Superior. Beautiful deep blue water.

Our home state
Was so nice reading about towns we are familiar with. Red Wing is a favorite. So glad you will be in Duluth for two days. There is an old ore boat which is a museum. I think it’s the William Irving. Not great if you are claustrophobic! Grandmas is favorite spot by Lift Bridge to eat. George just said to tell you he hopes you see an ore boat coming in or leaving. It’s a highlight for me even today. I told him I already mentioned it to you. Enjoy this beautiful part of our world.

Our home state
Another interesting day and read about it with coffee, p.j.s still on, and trying to wake up. My days are not even close to yours. I’m thinking you are heading to Duluth as I write this. The North Shore is one of my favorites places to drive along. Canal Park in Duluth is wonderful. If you’re lucky, you will see ore boats coming in or leaving port. If you go further north, is Grand Marais, a favorite town. And hoping you can visit Split Rock Lighthouse, love that place. I hope your day is wonderful. We both grew up in St, Paul so the North Shore is a favorite place.

your question
As you know we didn't do one last year. This trip kind of started last July but is disjointed. Please go to the blog page that lists all trips and read from the beginning of this year's trip. I have 3 entries as of this time and will add another tonight. The link is https://www.travelblog.org/Bloggers/sheflys/Trips/ Thanks for following us.

Memories
Loved your words on L.L. Bean. Even though we came from the MidWest, Ken & I loved the goods of L. L. Bean. Once when we were in Boston, we left our hotel early in the AM; walked about 8 blocks in freezing weather to pick up a rental car to drive up there for a weekend trip. We shopped; found a small Inn to have dinner & spend the night. We were back to the store before we headed out of town and back to Boston. Dropped off the car; carried our packages the 8 long, cold blocks and went back to the Marriott Long Wharf. What a great time we had!

Chicago and South Bend
The northern area of Chicago is a lot better than the southern area - near Gary, Ind. Mouse is from Glenview and Northbrook, Ill., two fine areas.

The Great Northwest
While I can agree that Mt. Rainier is a beautiful place, one of my best memories is of Everett WA. Harold & Nancy, Ken & I hit there about 5PM and we asked about a place with a great view. We wandered around some tiny roads & finally were at the ocean, got a wonderful table, watched the water as the sun went down, great meal, great evening. Thanks for helping me remember that.

Did you visit Mt. Rushmore near Rapid City?
I visited Mt. Rushmore when driving west at age 16. One of my fondest memories.

Been there!
Enjoying each days review but today was full of memories. Have been to Badlands numerous times. Devils Tower was amazing. Pictures wonderful. And now you are headed to our country. Rochester is maybe five hours from our cabin. That part of Minnesota is filled with small towns and antique shops. Hasn’t been hot so you might enjoy some cooler days.
