Geo: 42.3484, -71.0783Taxied to Toronto Airport and took some time to check-in, pass through security and US Immigration (in Canada!). The Air Canada counter lady diligently tracked down two seats together for us and it was an easy 90min trip in exit-row seats.A Tauck representative met us at luggage claim and escorted us to our limo ride to the Westin Copley Place hotel, in the Back Bay district of Boston. A promising start to our bus tour! While waiting for our room we wandered around Copley Square and enjoyed an automobile exhibition and an Indonesian cultural event.... read more

Geo: 43.7336, -79.3651Had a drive around Toronto's swanky suburbs this morning. The Bridal Path area with dozens of mansions on 1-2 acre lots was most impressive. Lunch with Eddie and a quick look around the city hall area, and then home for admin and cleanup.Damn, didn't make time for the CN Tower! We fly out early tomorrow for Boston.... read more

Geo: 43.775, -79.4119Again a relaxed start to the day and we walked from our hotel to Goat Island to view the falls from the American side. Then we drove across the northern Lewiston Bridge back into Canada and had a very pleasant drive around the smaller roads in the Niagara-on-the-Lake wine country. It was a warm and sunny day, lovely.... read more

Geo: 43.083, -79.0577Today we drove the 90min to Niagara Falls. The Niagara River drains Lake Erie into Lake Ontario, and like all the Great Lakes (except Lake Michigan) it includes the border between Canada and USA. Shipping uses Ontario's Welland Canal which is to the west of the Niagara River. The 43km canal has eight locks which cater for the 100m height difference.Apart from the falls, tourists can also visit over 80 vineyards on the pretty southern shores of Lake Ontario.... read more

Geo: 44.3247, -76.1613Today we drove for 2.5hr to the town of Gananoque, at the eastern end of Lake Ontario. This is where the St Lawrence River starts its journey through Montreal and Quebec to the North Atlantic Ocean. Gananoque is one of the tourist ports for the area's "1000 Islands" - home to many mansions, and to the salad dressing.Unfortunately the good weather we were enjoying in Toronto at the start of the trip did not last and the overcast conditions did not do justice to the beauty of the islands. In the evening we caught up with Eddie McLean who is working on Canadian mining projects until the end of the year.... read more

Geo: 45.1285, -78.555Haliburton is three hours north of Toronto, in an area crammed with glacial lakes, large and small. My favourite is Lake Kashagawigamog. For decades Toronto residents have been holidaying in lakeside summer cottages.P&P built their cottage on the shores of small Lake Cranberry, 40 years ago. They have extended it and built a separate structure they call a "bunky" on their one acre lot.... read more

Geo: 43.7258, -79.4521Another grey day so we drove to a large mall and enjoyed the variety of stores. Trap for travellers - in Canada the advertised price does not include the extra 13% for GST and Provincial taxes. Plus 15-20% hospitality tipping like in the US. Canadian $ is currently exactly on par with the AUD.Saw an unusual store for a shopping centre and sat in the new Tesla SUV, called the Model X. Terrific looking and outrageous performance: 0-100 in 3 seconds. It has a touch control screen about A3 sized! Priced from $95k with the top-of-the-line, fully optioned cost a hefty $200k. All for a limited range of 465 km and needing a specialised charging point.Drove around to the Kensington District just north of the CBD which is full of funky little stores all ... read more
