Geo: -33.8671, 151.2073rd Sept.Monday was 1st Sept. and 1st day of spring, I read in the citizenship test booklet it is also "Wattle day" but there is no mention of it in real life. Lovely spring weather so far.Was all cocked to go to Canberra for le weekend but C is dosed with the cold aka 'man' flu. So I made mulligatawny soup for the first time and didn't poison us, yay.Started updating my visual bookshelf on facebook (yes I have little to do) and am now obsessed with books (think I may have a slight form of OCD) but anyway have also realized how much I have not read, so many books so little time, starting with quite a few books already in our collection, ahem. But at least I tried many authors once so ... read more

Geo: -33.8671, 151.207Sydney20th You know that job I wasn't bothered about before I left (which I mentioned in passing in July blog entry) well I did a second interview for them at 9am the morning we left and they called me in Ireland to say I got it, and I really do want it so now all I have to do is resign...That 1st day back I resigned (amicably), struggled to stay awake though a meeting at 3pm and left work 4pm in a zombie like daze, slept til 2am, up til 5.30am back in work 10am. Feel like something out of 'Thriller' but now 2 days later have at least been to the gym twice to get some normality back.Notice a stretch in the evening, hurray but it's crisp enough, could see my breath on ... read more

Geo: 22.33, 114.18Hongkong highlights17th Left half poisoned for a 30 hour 'challenge Anneka style', shop as my friend BME calls it, in Hong Kong verdict: successful mission, stayed in (the real) Kowloon, same place as 3 years ago The Empire hotel so knew exactly how to get everywhere in double quick time which was great and got the subway to the mainland Mong Kok area (aka camera shop central). Last time we used star ferry but OMG the subway is so brilliant and air conditioned and so cheap about 54p for 4 stops, London Underground could really learn a thing or two from these guys. Had no actual Chinese food though, us bad, lunch in Irish bar Delaney's only cause we knew they had veggie burgers, coffee in Starbucks (where I was bullied (me too tired ... read more

Geo: 53.3441, -6.26749Dublin Highlights -read pubs- (4 nights)Hogan's (via dinner with 4 Galway friends in Jaipur which is still yum), Brogan's (saw some of the same people as 20 yrs ago plus saw actor Michael Gambon with some Irish theatre lovey type - had just seen The cook, the thief... recently so that coloured it bit for me), old fave the pool hall (via Pizza Stop with mate JM, also still yum), the Lord Ed & the Back lounge (via Chameleon restaurant where 12 of our Dublin friends very graciously wouldn't let us pay) and naturally went to Dublin's best kept secret our old local The Royal Oak (via Le Dolce Vita Irish-Italian with JMcT, and also still good). Also had lunch with old work mates BME & BB who again very decently wouldn't let me ... read more

Geo: 53.2789, -9.06619Shannon - Salthill - Cong - Ballymote - Boyle - Mohill - Carrick On Shannon - Keadue - Kilronan - Strandhill - Dublin 8Clare/Galway/Mayo Highlights (4 nights)Began with standing in Bus Eireann shelter in Shannon in the pissing rain (as in "soft day now thank God"), in fact the day we arrived had the largest amount of rain on record EVER! (Yes I know we are the same people who broke a 10 year drought in Sydney). Also I heard it was the wettest August in 8 years in Ireland and that's saying something but it was around 17degrees so that's better than raining & freezing. Not that stopped us having our first beautiful Guinness in a year (well for me anyway) in Tigh Neachtains Quay Street, shopping in Galways 'eclectic' clothes shops and ... read more

Geo: 42.3668, -71.106Arr 21.46 after 21 hrs so 1pm the next day body clock time :)So Boston highlights (6 nights)Our friend LMcG and her fiancé S collected us from the airport which was cool and deposited us in the very funky Hotel Marlowe in Cambridge of MIT and Harvard fame. Other friends S&S and their kids had already arrived from Ireland and the next day 3 more arrived PJ & K&B. The wedding was held at the hotel 2 days later so it was great to be based at the centre of it all. So we did a boat tour, went to the science museum, went to Harvard sq of course and spent a rainy afternoon in MIT bookshop (nerds that we are) went to Boston Common and saw Roosevelt's memorial (also Paul Reveres and Mother ... read more
