Geo: -33.8671, 151.2075 Feb 08So it's done nothing only rain for 4 days solid now, we were minding our nieces and nephew for the weekend as S&F had gone out of state to a wedding, so the rain was a bit of a challenge, fortunately kids like swimming in the rain and we found their rain coats so we had a expedition to the park for the 1 of the 2 dry hours this weekend, turns out it was the babies 1st time on a swing and he loved it. The other dry hour was 9.30am Sunday morning when I took the girls - one of which had been up since 6am and had done a cookie raid - bike riding, what an auntie. I dunno how people with kids drink, I was at a work ... read more

Geo: -33.8671, 151.2074 Jan 08 Let's start with a rant: I was thinking posting Christmas cards must be majorly out of fashion in Ireland but then loads (well 12) came in 2008, according to the post mark Australia post like to hang on to them for at least a week, weird. Also customs kept some books my Mum sent for weeks so it took a month in all from her sending them to me getting them, ridiculous. Then products from Isle of White also took 4 weeks and the address was correct but the country said Denmark! How it got here is a miracle, so I emailed the company & told them (as I had updated my address correctly online needless to say) and they sent an apology gift that took only 5 days to get ... read more

Geo: -42.8827, 147.33Tasmania 25-28th Jan 2008. We now know its 15 mins. in a cab from ours to the airport, sweet, even if it does cost $46. Got an 8.30am flight with Jetstar on a Friday morn of a public holiday weekend, painless check in, security etc. you are allowed to bring a bottle of water in hand luggage now it seems. Maybe they copped on that even if you had the relevant chemicals to make an explosive you'd need a lab to get it together, an airplane toilet just wouldn't cut it. Don't know what's happening in euro airports but I say will done Aussie. Plus we had novelty of using our id cards instead of passports (not to mention our passports are now out of date, d'oh). So it's only a 2 hour flight ... read more

Geo: -33.8671, 151.207The 1st of December is summer and it was raining, but we went to an extended-family Christmas party anyway at bro-in-law's eldest bro's & missus (D&T) place, the 1st of many. This one had posted invitations! Christmas seems so unreal here, there's trees and stuff up but I hardly notice them but still I sent 44 cards overseas (as they say here). Discovered a gorgeous Indian restaurant called 'Nilgiri' in the next neighbourhood St. Leonards. And there's another lovely one nearer us in Crows Nest called 'Cumin', where we will have a mini Christmas with friends P&A on 19th, 'Cumin' cook with olive oil rather than ghee if requested (I put 8kg on the big trip this year, so am in the process of removing that and then some, 4kg down so far). There ... read more

Geo: -33.8671, 151.207Spring 18th SEP-27TH NOV 2007We have been here 10 weeks today, so have a job since 24th Oct. and a house with air conditioning since 27th Oct., a phone (which we had to buy & to pay to get connected our selves, what a racket as every renter has to do this so 'Telstra' the phone co. must be laughing) and satellite TV (again had to get that ourselves & took 3 weeks to get installed) and only got internet sorted a month after to moved in, which was a bit of a nightmare even though the house used to be used as an office and has 6 fax & data lines, don't ask. I am amazed the electricity was on although that was a bit of a saga too.I think renting is actually ... read more
