TIME TO SMELL THE FLOWERS
What a fantastic life you lead...oh I just live in Merida, Mexico near some Mayan temples...just taking our time...sounds sublime.

Lazy Days/Daze
Incredible photos as usual--you certainly have an great eye for color and composition! Wonderful adventures, too--congrats on that Indiana Jones exploring (though too bad about the chiggers). I'm also a not-so-young, long-term traveler, and I think we're entitled to some lazy days, reading, looking at the clouds and just being. I do it at home, don't you? We can't be Indiana every day!

Thanks, Tara!
I can always count on you for a nice comment! I, too, look forward to reading your blogs about your travels; I especially like your glacier pictures! Are you going "on the road" any time soon?

Lovely
"Travel has surely increased our scope of things in the world..." Definitely a true statement there Nanci. Beautiful cave pics, we have become very fond of caves so far on our travels.

Incredible photos!
Those photos of the caves are stunning as well as those of Chichen Itza and the hacienda. At first, when I saw you sitting at that table, I thought perhaps it was your rental in Merida. I was at Chichen Itza once for the equinox and it was impressive to see the serpent, then its head descend into the earth, but I'm sure it will be a zoo this year--good call! And how lucky to have all these earthquakes and volcanoes happen after your visit--may your luck hold!

Great house and photos!
Your house looks beautiful even if you have/get to share it with an iguana. I love Uxmal, but never got to see the flamingos--may have to return. How comfy to have a home and base for all this great exploring--what else might you find?

Thanks for writing
And sorry it's taken so long for me to write back. Oh, how I envy you and your age! Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately!) age and funds demand that we research places to stay for a month (places are cheaper!) and drive out from there. Some places, like Merida, work well for this life style; others, like Boquete, Panama, not so much! Anyway, I enjoy your writing style - keep your blogs coming! Nanci

Our House, Merida

Your Blog
I enjoyed reading your blog on recent move to Merida. We are planning on coming to Merida in March and staying downtown. Have you found any good restaurants?...................

Our House, Merida

Restaurants
Peter, First of all, thank you for writing! I hope you like Merida as much as I do. Usually, we eat dinner at home and only eat lunch out when we're out doing things. Downtown Merida has a plethora of good restaurants; there's also Trip Advisor - http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurants-g150811-Merida_Municipality_of_Merida_Yucatan_Peninsula.html A quirky little must-try restaurant that's a bit out of Centro Historico is the Smoking Club #1. I don't know why it's named that, but it serves the BEST cochinita! Two sandwiches and two drinks (non-alcoholic) cost us less than $6. It's on Calle 60, next to the American Consulate. I hope this helps!

We are so jealous
We had so hoped to extend our trip into Central America but unfortunately money and family pressure will have us home before we can make it. It sounds and looks amazing...we just cannot wait to eventually get there. Keep travelling safe. Shelley and Scott

Fantastic blog & photos
We are on the road ourselves so have not had much time to read blogs recently but I'm certainly glad we took a look at this one. We'd love to make this trip. We may need to follow in your footsteps some day. Keep those great blogs coming.

I can't believe it took me this look to find your blog...
when most of my Followers also Follow you. Anyway, I joined your fan club. I'm enthralled with your choice of retirement...not just staying in one place in Mexico, but moving around every few months so that you get to know everywhere very well. On my Bucket List is to travel around Central Ameerica, starting in Cancun and ending in Panama City, Panama. However, you have opened my eyes to the delights of many other places in Mexico, so my starting point may be closer to the U.S. I'm still not sure that I want to drive through the drug lord dominated border cities and even further inland like you did. Is it possible to fly into Mazatlan and rent a car to drive all over Mexico and then through all the Central American countries to Panama? Would I be able to drop the car off there or should I plan to make a round trip back to Mexico? I'm more a flashpacker so appreciate easy travel and nicer accommodations. What itinerary would you recommend for a 2-3 week tour to hit the highlights?

Brilliant Blog
Hi guys, I am so glad you discovered us because that meant we discovered you. Love your blogs. We were so hoping to get to Panama and Costa Rica, but unsure if the money will strecth that far. You have confirmed everything we have heard about the place so it will make it even harder for us if we don't make it. Isn't it great seeing the Olympics from another country, back home got so sick of hearing "Aussie, Aussie, Aussie" so nice seeing other sports Australia doesnt compete in. As for "tourist swarms" they really can ruin your day. Looking forward to your next blog Shelley and Scott

Congrats!
Congratulations on Blogger of the Week! We do not have a long-term plan, per se. As I said in our Bio, we're going to stay out until either our health or money runs out. As it stands right now, we're probably going to stay out for another six years - a continent a year! As it stands right now, we're heading north to Mexico to work on our car. You can only stay for a month in a country in Central America, but you can stay for six months in Mexico. After a few months and a "new" car, we'll ship it to South America and go from there, that is if it doesn't crap out on the way to Mexico. If one thing we've learned, it's how to be fluid! Again, congratulations on being Blogger of the Week! Nanci and David
