Because we made it out to Kandos instead of stopping in Bathurst for the night, we decided to push through to Tenterfield instead of staying in Glen Innes. The ride all day was gorgeous! Again, more beautiful countryside that was something to behold. Rolling hills in lush valleys with backdrops of dense, green forests. Truly spectacular! The camera was going the whole time, so I fortunately got some pictures, too! I'll try to get some up, but the net is, as always, slow. But it was a day of a lot of riding. About 8am to 5:30pm. We're staying at the Jambuck Motor Inn in Tenterfield, population 3,300. Not much to do here, but at least there's high-speed-ish internet, so I can post some updates that are quite overdue! Just gonna relax here for the night, ... read more

Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Jindabyne April 15th 2013

We left Jindabyne at about 8 in the morning. It was a beautiful day! Partly cloudy, and a nice temperature (probably upper 50s when we left). The scenery here also is without words. Passing by Lake Jindabyne was breathtaking. And unfortunately wasn't able to take many pictures (none while moving) do to some camera case issues that I can hopefully resolve soon... Again, pictures pending a good net connection! The first leg of the day was Jindabyne to Cooma, which went pretty quickly. The original plan was to bypass Canberra and take some side roads to the east of Cooma, but this included more dirt. As such, we decided to avoid it. I didn't want a repeat of the other day! We had a brief pit stop in Queanbeyan outside of Canberra, then headed northeast toward ... read more

Took the main highway out of Melbourne to Bairnesdale. It was raining a little bit, but not too bad and cleared up pretty quickly. Didn't need to get out the rain suit. From then, we got on the Great Alpine Highway through the Snowy Mountains. I think without question this has been the some of the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen. Pictures barely do it justice! The road took us into the mountains and finally onto the Barry Way into Jindabyne. Barry Way was a dirt road, mostly in good shape, lasting about 160km. It took I think about 3 hours to do. Videos and pictures will be up pending a decent net connection! This was a long day of riding. We left Melbourne at about 8:20. It was about 5:20 or so. So, about ... read more

Hey All! Writing tonight from the house of a kind Aussie, Brian Lacey, who I'm going to be doing the first few days of the trip with, eventually parting ways in Hervey Bay. A hot meal and a real bed sure do feel nice! I'll try to upload a video of my second day in Phillip Island. I wasn't able to get anything of the Penguin Parade, but that was super funny. The route up to Hervey Bay consists of: Melbourne to Jindabyne Jindabyne to Bathurst Bathurst to Glen Innes Glenn Innes to Hervey Bay So, tomorrow is the first of this, Melbourne to Jindabayne. Were taking a highway to Bairnsdale, then peeling off and taking the Bruthen-Buchan Road up to the Barry Way. These roads cut through the Snowy Mountains in Victoria's Alpine country. It's ... read more

Hey everyone! Made it to Phillips Island today. It was about a 150 km ride, and was pretty nice besides the brief rain stop I took. After I got going again it was perfectly dry the rest of the way and turned into a really nice day! The bike is running like a champ and quite comfortable. Now let's see how the 450 km days go! Oi! Of course, the main reason I am here is for the Little Penguins and the first night of camping. Penguins were so cool! They come to the beach in "rafts", or groups of a few dozen or more that at first look like little waves that just slowly keep coming. Then, as they get closer they relax and rest for a bit, then just shimmy up the beach to ... read more

Hi everyone! So I got into Melbourne last last night. Think it was about 11pm by the time I got checked into the hostel. So didn't really do much besides crash out. This morning I woke up and pretty much went straight to the bike rental place, Garner's Hire Bikes, to get what's going to be my home away from home for the next 4 weeks. I put together a short video of it and how I went about setting it up. So, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zpa7T2QyC4g Other than that, just cruised around Melbourne for a bit. It's a nice city. Really busy so it was a bit hair raising at times driving on the other side of the road. Think I'm getting the hang of it though... Hmm... Haha. Gonna head out tonight to get ... read more

First blog entry! Internet is limited here on Fiji, but wanted to just put something out. Went out on a 2 dive trip to South Sea Island. Really nice! Diving in 82 degree water sure is the best... First time in warm water diving. No wet suit needed! Great experience. Jim and I were going to do another 2 dives this morning, but when we got to the place in Moni, the boat wouldn't start. Boo! So unfortunately no more diving for me in Fiji, as my flight to Melbourne leaves tomorrow at 5:30pm. So today is probably gonna be hitting some inland stuff. A hike would be nice... Well, off to some adventures!... read more
