Today we had breakfast (fruit/toast/cereal) at the hotel. We then departed Darwin to Kakadu. Prior to leaving Darwin we went on a coach tour of the city. We drove down and around Darwin Harbour and past rich houses. We learn about the Japanese attacks during the war and the cyclones that have destroyed Darwin 4 times in the past. We went to Darwin museum and were given an hour or two to look around. It was full of Aboriginal Art, other typical Museum stuff, Sweetheart a huge croc that was caught, and the Cyclone Tracy display. The Cyclone Tracy display and story would have to have been the museum highlight. Ill post some info at the bottom of the blog regarding the story of Cyclone Tracy and also Sweetheart the crocodile if anyone is interested. Next ... read more

Today was the first official day of tour. We met in the lobby, waited for a few more passengers arriving and then hopped on the bus and met our driver Xavier. We traveled towards Lichfield National Park where we were spending the day. We stopped at a roadhouse for breakfast. One thing about Northern Territory which we were told from the start is slow service. On the bus we were told to hold up our hands, wave and that was us waving goodbye to customer service. Your food might come, half an hour later, and it might be what you ordered. It wasn't that bad but yes was a bit slow and laid back. The breakfast choice was fine for everyone. Today we went to two waterfalls and got to swim at both in different parts ... read more

Next day 9 October 07 was another free day before the tour started. Most people decided to stay by the hotel pool but Sarah and myself decided to see if we could go out and explore some more of Darwin. We were both interested in getting onto one of the crocodile jumping tours but were unable to get on any tours so we decided to challenge ourselves to the local transport and go to Crocodylus Park. The park was pretty good. Worth a visit if you have a spare day and time. You get really really close to some crocs. The breeding pens - the crocs were huge. You learn so much on the walk around guided tours. I was standing next to the guy feeding the crocs so they got pretty close leaping out of ... read more

So this is my first trip on my own so I decided to stay in Oz rather then take off overseas my first time. Much easier to save for too and I love Australia and always wanted to explore it so here was my chance and I took it. I decided to sign up for Contiki Aussie Explorer so I would not be on my own, be able to see a lot more, meet lots of people and connections from around the world and have everything organised for me. I wanted a fast paced tour rather then a slow one. I like to jam pack my days and do and see all I can in a day. So eventually I packed and jumped on my Qantas flight to Darwin. The flight was around 4.5 hours,m which ... read more
