Today was the first official day of tour. We met in the lobby, waited for a few more passengers arriving and then hopped on the bus and met our driver Xavier. We traveled towards Lichfield National Park where we were spending the day.
We stopped at a roadhouse for breakfast. One thing about Northern Territory which we were told from the start is slow service. On the bus we were told to hold up our hands, wave and that was us waving goodbye to customer service. Your food might come, half an hour later, and it might be what you ordered. It wasn't that bad but yes was a bit slow and laid back. The breakfast choice was fine for everyone.
Today we went to two waterfalls and got to swim at both in different parts of the park. Wangi falls and Florence falls. The water was really warm and nice at both. I think Florence was the first one we went to. First one was really nice for photos. There was a plank to take shots from higher up. Once actually down at the water you had to climb over some slippery rocks and walk through water to
get a good shot. The second waterfall was smaller. There were some fresh water crocs about and a next on the river bank but they are nothing to worry about. Freshwater crocs are general pretty shy and stay away from humans. Unlike the big salties we are not seen as food. The falls are closed in the wet season because the rising water allows saltwater crocs access so the cros come up river. The water falls are very popular places and both locals and tourists come down from Darwin to swim.
We has lunch at a dodgy kiosk in site. Dodgy in sense some of the food colour was kind of strange and I think some had concerns as to what they were actually eating but I think everything tasted better then it looked and no one got sick so its all good :P.
We also went and looked at the termine mounds. There are different types around the park but the most impressive ones are over 2 meters tall. There are two different types in the park.
After our day of swimming and exploring the park we returned to the hotel. Before dinner we went to
Mindle Beach to watched the famous sunset. That night our dinner was walkabout but we all went to hogs breath cafe. After that we went to "Vic's" bar which was better then expected. Contiki was welcomed with some shots so I cant complain. There were plenty of games going on pretty much involving people removing their clothes. I cant remember exactly what because I'm writing this 2 years later but there were people on stage and they had to get items of random people like bras, underwear etc. Similar to the treasure hunt game always played on the contiki bus. There was also breast painting which some girls on tour got involved in. No better was to get to know your new tour group then get naked first night.
