So this is my first trip on my own so I decided to stay in Oz rather then take off overseas my first time. Much easier to save for too and I love Australia and always wanted to explore it so here was my chance and I took it. I decided to sign up for Contiki Aussie Explorer so I would not be on my own, be able to see a lot more, meet lots of people and connections from around the world and have everything organised for me. I wanted a fast paced tour rather then a slow one. I like to jam pack my days and do and see all I can in a day.
So eventually I packed and jumped on my Qantas flight to Darwin. The flight was around 4.5 hours,m which is the longest flight I've been on so far and i thought it dragged on so long. I had a direct flight which was good as most flights go Via Carins, Brisbane or Alice Springs and are 6 - 8 hours with the layover so I was very happy with my 4.5 hour flight. Food was not bad but cannot remember what it was.
Darwin airport is small and easy to navigate around. The baggage ramp is downstairs and then just near the hire ramp is a small booth in which you can buy the airport shuttle ticket for $12.00. Several buses wait out the front and they tell you which bus to get on and leave one the baggage collection area has cleared. The Frointeer Darwin was the last stop. Probably took half an hour - 45 mins to get to the hotel. There are four beds per room in on this trip. In this case there was 4 single beds. I read bad reviews on Trip Advisor, I have read bad reviews of pretty much every hotel we stayed at, but Ive come to the conclusion most people who right that stuff are obviously very fussy and expect too much. They go on like everywhere should be five star and don't accept you are getting what you pay for. All i ask for is a safe place to sleep, a shower, a toilet and a door that locks so mabe I do not set my expectations too high but still no where was as bad as I thought it would be. I was expecting the worst. No where we stayed was terrible, no where was going to kill us.
So anyway I checked into the hotel and went up to my room. Amy from UK was asleep in the bed so my entrance woke her. She got up and introduced herself and told me about some of the other people from the tour she had met by the pool. We went for a walk and met up with some of the others. A small group of us, Me, Amy, Oddessa and Tanja went into Darwin town for dinner and had a walk around. Mitchell Street, the main street in Darwin was probably a 10 - 15 minute walk from the hotel. We did not have a late night, dinner and a few drinks and then off to bed.
Our room was woken 2 times through the night, once about 2:00 am and once about 4:00 am with the arrivals of Gemma and Sarah.
