Ok, so we got to Budapest and it was a haven after the little eastern swing we had. It is very beautiful with many interesting sights and historically filled stuff. It is made up of Buda and Pest, Pest has all the places to stay and eat whilst Buda has all the historical sights and such. So we arrived pretty early thanks to our stellar night train from Romania. We got in early so we dropped off our bags and walked around to get a feel for our surroundings. We came across a giant church called St. Stephen's Basilica. The Hungarians have the mummified right hand of St. Stephen's there which we took a look at. We agreed with the Hungarian working there (who didnt speak a word of english) that the lighting wasn't great ... read more

Hello all, So, we left Dubrovnik, and we were not too happy about that. The place was fantastic, and we really missed it, especially after where we headed next. We took a morning bus to Herceg Novi, Montenegro, from where we were hoping to catch another bus to Bar and then the night train to Serbia. We got to Herceg Novi, couldn't get a bus to Bar for a few hours and ended up taking a bus to Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro, with Steph and Gaz (two english people we had met on the first bus). The drive was really cool because there was a lot of great scenery along the coast. We then went inland and through the mountains and they were great as well. And then we arrived in Podgorica. This is one ... read more

Hello again! We guess we have to do a little check up again. We're finishing off our time here in beautiful Croatia! We took the train down from Ljubljana to Zagreb. On board, we met a nice Croatian girl named Ana who helped us a lot with the border guards and the transfers. She even helped us find out how to get from Zagreb to Split because the train was not running and bus was the only option. She said goodbye, and the five of us (we had picked up two more Americans by this time) wandered briefly around the square infront of the train station. We would have spent more time, but the rain was not forgiving so we dashed undercover and ate lunch. From what we saw, Zagreb looked like a nice place. Next, ... read more

Hello, So, we're in Slovenia right now. Ooooooooooooo, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! This is really the first part of the uncharted territory of this trip. We left Munich at the crack of dawn and hopped on the train to Slovenia. The seats were all reserved so we made good use of the available space in the luggage compartment. We hadn't left Bavaria before a random guy approached us and asked to see our passports. Now, we've heard about people stealing passports or looking for bribes, so both of us were a little worried by now. We asked why, and then he showed us his ideantification (id card and handgun) and said he was with the bavarian police and he was looking for drugs. We reluctantly handed over our passports and waited. He was then joined by his three buddies. ... read more

Ja, vi are here in Munchen ja!!! We took the train from Zurich to Munich where we could be take it easy for five days. We thought we might be able to recharge the batteries a little there. Yeah, about that, no, not so much. Let's break it down to the days: Day 1: So we arrived in town, and went on a bit of an impromptu walking tour along the main pedestrianised street to Marienplatz, which is the main square. The Neu Rathaus (town hall) is there, in all its neo-gothic glory. It was next to impossible to get the whole building in the photo, so we found a church nearby where we could take pictures of the views of Munchen and the Fraunkirche. There were even views out to the Allianz Arena where TSV ... read more

Hello all, Kif and Peter were successful with their meeting plan and met up at Platform 1 in Geneva. They went up to the Palais de Nations, the UN building in Geneva, and got a tour of the place. It´s pretty cool in their because you get to see a lot of rooms where big decisions were made throughout history. After leaving the building at 2pm, we realized that there would be no way that we could see both Lausanne and Chateau Chillon that day. So we scrapped Chateau Chillon and have saved it for another trip. We wandered around Geneva, where we saw the Jet d´eau and plenty of banks. At about 3pm, we realized that there would be no way we could even get to Lausanne, so it has also been saved for another ... read more

Hello people, it's Kristoffer here. This is my part of the France adventures. I was passed out when Peter left early for Luxembourg. I took it easy in Bruges and chilled with a fellow backpacker Molly from Guelph. We're having amazing luck with the weather still, only 1 day of rain! That good fortune continued for me in France . I took the TGV down to Lyon, through Brussels and Disney World Paris (didn't go, just the train stops) and finished in Lyon. I got in in the afternoon thanks to my late departure from Bruges. But when I met a nice businessman on the train from Minneapolis who lives and works in Lyon. He helped me with directions to my hostel. It was on a hilltop looking over Lyon. It had an amazing view! Stunning, ... read more

Hallo, We have now been to the Benelux nations (or at least Peter has, because he swung through Luxembourg). We left Cologne and took the train to Amsterdam. We couldn't stay in a hostel in town because it was a long weekend and everything was booked so we had to stay in Noordwijk, near Leiden and 45 minutes away, at a Beach Hostel. We chucked our bags at the station, and started wandering down the canals. The canals west of the Damrak (main street) have some gorgeous canal houses on them and are extremely picturesque. We walked along canals, passed the Anne Frank Huis museum which had a line-up stretching around the block, and to the Uptown area where the museums are. We went to the Rijksmuseum, but the lineup was too long and a helpful ... read more

Hello all, Sorry it's been so long, since the last update, but we have had difficulties finding computers and finding the time to get down to this. We left Katrina in Denmark on April 28, and headed south into Germany. As soon as we hit Germany, we saw hills! We hadn't seen hills since we flew out of Vancouver so it was great to see them rather than a flat expanse such as Saskatchewan. That's right, I went there! We passed through Felnsburg, which is where they built the new Vancouver ferries so that was kind of cool. We arrived in Hamburg, and it was raining. The first rain of the trip! We took the Metro to our hostel called the Wira Hostel. The directions were something like this "Exit the Konigstrasse metro and it is ... read more

Europe » Denmark » Region Midtjylland » Aarhus April 28th 2008

Hello all, Another city another entry. Kif and Peter caught the train out of Copenhagen and headed to the mainland to visit their friend Katrina in Arhus. The train was delayed (so far Danish trains don't really seem to run on time), but we were only two hours late in arriving. We got to Katrina's place, and partied up with her korridor mates whilst enjoying some Danish culture. We got up bloody early the next day to head up to Skagen which is at the northern tip of Denmark. The scenery up there is strange, and unlike anything back in Vancouver. There are lots of sand dunes, but they're mostly covered in really patchy grass. There are also lots of pine trees everywhere. Apparently, before the grass was planted on the dunes, they use to shift ... read more
