Geo: 47.4984, 19.0408Woke up early this morning to the sound of rain drops on our tent, great, the worst thing about camping is rain. Brad cooked a great breaky of scrambled eggs and mushrooms. Caught the train into the city. Had a good view of Parliment House across the river. Walked uphill to the Fisherman's Bastion which is a good lookout point of the city. Saw the outside of Matthias church, we didn't pay to get in as we are all churched out. Then went to the Budapest Labyrinth. Spnt quite a while walkng through the underground caves and tunnels. I lead the way through the labyrinth of courage, which was pitch black and you had to hold onto a rope to avoid walking into walls. Crossed the river to Pest- thats where all the shops and ... read more

Geo: 47.4984, 19.0408Had a hot and early shower this morning, apparently hot water at the camp grounds are rare- terrific! Today we weren't the last tent down, a big improvement. At 7.30 we left camp and hit the road. Half the bus fell asleep. The landscape is very green and hilly with winding roads. Romania was beautiful, even though it was raining. This mornings music selection was a bit gay. Not much else to do except sleep! The border into Hungary only took 1 and a half hours. We had to turn our clocks back an hour. I missed out on an entry stamp. Finally arrived in Budapest. We had a driving tour of the city and crossed over the bridges from Pest to Buda and visa versa. Drove up the hill to the victory monument ... read more

Geo: 43.4852, 25.7644Today was another drive day with a stop in this town to visit the fort. It was great to stop in a small town and stretch our legs. We had a great view from the fort of the town, only not enough time here. Apparently we were suppose to pay to enter the fort, but most of us walked straight past the ticket office, a few of the group were busted and told to pay or leave. Walked around the fort for a bit and then we went for a walk through part of the town. It was good to breathe fresh air again. There were two men at a cafe and for a few coins they played music for us. Got back on the bus and went to sleep.... read more

Europe » Bulgaria » Sofia City » Sofia April 29th 2006

Geo: 42.6976, 23.3222After breakfast we met our city tour leader Nona and drove in the centre of the city. We walked around and had an informative tour about this city. Saw the statue of St Sofia and an old round Roman church of St George, which is the only building from the 4th century that has not been destroyed. Saw guards in front of the presidential palace and changed while we were there. Sofia is joining the EU and has a countdown clock, they only have 247 days to go. As we walked down the street, four people walked past us and one of them was Martina Hingis, apparently she's Bulgarian. Went into the Alexander Nevski cathedral, which is suppose to be the largest cathedral in the Balkans. Was quite beautiful inside. Had the rest of ... read more
