Geo: 41.8955, 12.4823We got off the train at Termini Station and walked towards our apartment. On the way we stopped at an amazing supermarket and even though we were buggered and just wanted to get back and rest, we still spent quite a bit of time here getting excited about all the yummy food. Even more exciting was that I found a pasta brand called Pasta Julia. Finally we choose what to eat for dinner and some food for tomorrow. We were now prepared for supermarket shopping and came prepared with plastic bags as we didn't want to have to pay for any more of the them! We crossed the piazza and were now back in our apartment. The first thing was I did was sit on the couch and put my legs up, they were ... read more

Geo: 41.8955, 12.4823This morning we thought we got to the Vatican Museum early, but there was a massive line, although it was moving. We decided to buy tickets online and come back later on at 1pm. We caught a bus and went to the Trastevere district of the city. ... read more

Geo: 41.8955, 12.4823We arrived back in Rome just after 9:30pm. On the walk back to our apartment we stopped to take some photos of the Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica as it was really nicely lit up. We also noticed that it was surrounded by armed military guards. Tonight the city seemed very quiet. We were a little peckish, so went in search of take-away food. There weren't many options that appealed to us. We settled on Turkish food. I choose a felafel. We walked back to our apartment and ate our very late dinner. After dinner I took a few photos of the view from the apartment windows and then went to bed.... read more

Geo: 41.8955, 12.4823Again this morning we woke early and then packed up, showered, had a quick, small breakfast and then walked down our street and around the corner. We wanted to see a church that we have been walking past so many times each day. To get there we had to walk up a steep flight of steps. The outside of the church doesn't really look like a church to me, as there is no visible bell tower or dome. This church is called San Pietro in Vincoli, which means St Peter in Chains. Inside I noticed that there weren't many pews. This church seemed large inside and I think it was due to the lack of paint on every inch of the wall. It was easier to take it all in. This church is well ... read more

Geo: 41.8955, 12.4823We slowly walked out of Piazza San Pietro and regularly turned around to admire the view. It was even more amazing as the sun was setting. Soon after we had left the Vatican City and walked towards the castle of Saint Angelo along the main thoroughfare of Via della Conciliazione. This would lead us to the castle and the river. We slowly walked along and to our left I noticed a city wall. I wanted to go and have a look. Michael was tired, so he waited for me on a bench. This 800m long wall went from the Vatican City to Saint Angelo's Castle. It is known as Passetto di Borgo and is an elevated passageway. In the past it was been used by popes to escape from danger in the Vatican City. ... read more

Geo: 41.8955, 12.4823I had a great night's sleep and am hopefully over jetlag. We ate breakfast as we got ready for our busy sightseeing day. The most important thing was our travel bible – the Lonely Planet, Rome edition. This morning we were going on a free walking tour. It starts from the Spanish Steps and will last about two hours. I led the way, we walked up our street (Via Urbana and then turned left at Via Agostino de Pretis. Further along we would arrive at the Spanish Steps. We stopped to photograph the Quattro Fontane (The Four Fountains). This intersection seemed too small to display these large fountains. They were built in the Renaissance period in the 1500's. Two of the figures represent rivers, the Tiber and Aniene and the other two are of ... read more

Geo: 41.8955, 12.4823Our trip started with a delay at Melbourne airport. The flight was due to take off at 10:55pm and it was about two hours later than this that we took off. Michael and I were sitting in economy, while dad was in premium economy. This was a long flight and I kept busy by watching movies, sleeping and eating. About fourteen hours later we arrived at Dubai. Just before landing in Dubai a message came over the speaker informing passengers about their connecting flights. Many of the European flights had to be rescheduled and some even diverted through London. Lucky for us, our flights were not being changed. Michael and I met up again with dad when we got off. There were staff members holding signs of connecting destinations to assist passengers with their ... read more
