Markus took his flight back to Europe and left me alone in Aleppey. For all those who are following our blogs since a while, you will probably know that I had 3 difficult abdominal operations in 2012. So my one and only reason to come to Aleppey was a 21 day ayurvedic panchakarma treatment. I wanted to reduce the toxines in my body and to get back on track (I still had a lot of problems). And as some ayurveda councelling in Switzerland had helped me a lot, I wanted to go through this programme. I arrived with mixed feelings in the Sreekrishna Ayurveda Center in Aleppey, to be honest. Well, knowing that this has nothing to do with wellness, I was actually really scared. How will I feel (you hear those horrible stories of people ... read more

Our start in Varkala was.... well, tired. Having been up since 4 am with a bit of sleep in the sleeper train from Coimbatore, we were desperate for a nice shower and a cool beer. The night before we had made a reservation at a guesthouse. But as we showed up, the owner told us that she had not received a reservation. Anyway, a room was free for 3 nights - so no problem. And what a room it was: it was the cleanest room that exists in India (at least that is what we think!) with a wonderful private balcony and a fridge! Perfect to buy and store some fruit and relax. Well, if (after this blog) you still want to go to Varkala then you must stay at the Mango Villa. The owner is ... read more

It is a long time ago I (Nina) was reading a book about an english lady who lived in the Nilgiris when the english settled into India. I do not remember the title of the book (it was actually not the best book I have ever read), but what I do remember is the beauty of the landscape that was described. Somehow I had the idea of going to Ooty despite a lot of people telling us, that it is a really dull place. From Mysore we took a private bus to Ooty. And I have to admit, never again a private bus in India! This SPN Travel & Tours tried to rip us off whenever they could. Well, they were not successful in the end, but it was a lot of hassle to make it ... read more

.....this is what lonely planet says about Mysore. Well, we are not really LP-fans - but this is certainly true. Mysore has everything South India is made of: tempels, pujas, lovely food, hot weather, friendly people, colonial buildings, honking, crazy markets, yoga, all kinds of smells and colours and, a highlight for us (after a long time without): nice cold local beer. This city is a feast for all sins. But come prepared and be ready to dive into this world - otherwise it will makes you crazy. We were thinking a lot about going to Mysore. The last travelblogs about this city were not really enthusiastic. But in Wayanad, we spoke to so many people who simply loved their time in Mysore that we finally decided to check it out. And did we regret coming ... read more

Oh yes, it was really hard to say goodbye to our new friends in Kannur and to leave this wonderful piece of land in India. But, of course, we wanted to see much more of this country. So, it was time to move on. This time by bus. It was just a scenic 3 hours bus ride up the Western Ghats to our next destination: Mananthavady, including some steep hairspins with wonderful views. In Mananthavady we had no idea where our prebooked homestay was (thanks again to Sreeranj for making the reservation!). We had the usual hassle with the Ricksaw drivers and finally found one who took us to the right place. What a peaceful oasis it was! We were greeted by a barking dog, named Bruno - the boss of the homestay. He does not ... read more

A train trip in India - this was on our bucket list since very long. So it was no question - to our second destination on our trip we go by train. We had ignored all warnings to make reservation for trains 2 month in advance. The day before we wanted to travel we simply walked into an agency in Fort Kochi and we were lucky. We got a second class non AC ticket for the next day to Kannur! Wow, travelling can sometimes be so easy. We were happy to leave Kochi. We liked the city, but our homestay was really awful and we were looking forward to a nice guesthouse. And again, how lucky we were - we got a room in our first choice guesthouse. In the morning we took a taxi to ... read more

Our way to India was very indian - to put it shortly. ;-) Let's start from the beginning. As always, we had booked the cheapest flight available on the internet. It looked fine: with Air India via Delhi to Kochi. A week before our departure, the flight was slightly changed with a short stop in Mumbai. Well, we did not care about this. As we arrived in Delhi, we found out that we had another change of flights - surprise, surprise! Finally it turned out that we had 4 flights till we reached Kochi. From Frankfurt to Delhi, from Delhi to Jaipur, from Jaipur to Mumbai and from Mumbai to Kochi. It was already dark when we reached Kochi on New Year's Eve. And it was hot with 31 degrees centigrade! We were quite tired, but ... read more

A visit from South Korea We were a bit scared when our friend Minji from South Korea wrote us that she will visit us by the end of september. It can be already really cold then and the weather might be really bad. And what can we do with bad weather in the mountains - not to much. But we stayed positive and were really looking forward for Minji's visit. But before, we had lots to do. We had just moved into our new flat and were still living in between all the boxes. So we had to hurry up to get everything ready before Minji's arrival. Well, let's not talk about sour muscles and long nights ;-). In fact, we did not know each other very well. We met about 1,5 year ago in a ... read more

For weeks I (Nina) had a fixed meeting in Weil am Rhein Germany with a group of ladies. We all work in Marketing and from time to time we meet to share our ideas, jobs or just have a good time together. This time, we wanted to get some inspiration for our daily work by visiting the famous Vitra Design Museum across the boarder frome Basel in Weil am Rhein in Germany. So far so good. Very spontanously I decided to take the whole day off work (that is the good thing about being self-employed) and to wander around the streets of Basel. I have never been to this swiss city so far (well, I have passed it a lot of times). Everyone living there is raving about it, but somehow I always had the feeling ... read more

Friends visiting us are always jealous about where we live. "Hey - this is like holiday. And you can enjoy this every single day" - this is, what they normally tell us. Well, we know, it is not the worst place to live and a lot of people spend a lot of money and travel a lot of k's to come here - where we "just" live. We have felt guilty a lot of times, especially when we are complaining about our life and when our only goal is to catch a flight and go..... Well, in general, we know, we are really blessed to live in Switzerland (and especially Berne!), to have our own companies and to be able to travel. But, also in Switzerland, you have to work hard for your money - and ... read more
