So Mcleod has come and about to go too. Have spent a few days up here which have been very enjoying. Met some good people, yet again, and also done some interesting stuff like seeing THE Dalai Lama in person at a speach he gave here at his residence in Mcelod Ganj. Had to get up at the crack of dawn to get there in time and register to get in to the speach at 9am but it was worth seeing him. I've also explored the area and nearby areas by foot, a pleasant walk a few kms away up to nearby Bhagsu to view an amazing waterfall gushing down the steep mountain side. On the way i passed several mountain goats like billy goat gruff as well as monkeys, horses and more cows. The streets ... read more

So Pushkar came and went, i ended up meeting a group of spanish girls on the bus from jaipur to Pushkar on the 25th. Ended up sharing rooms at a guesthouse with them for 3 nights which was cool, just hung out and enjoyed the street markets, bought a few gifts and caught up with friendss on skype etc. Managed to watched several lovely sunsets from different angles overlooking the lake and the town of pushkar. The town itslef was "quite relaxed but saying that sunday was very busy throught the narrow streets as there were thousands of pilgrimigers walking through the town all barefoot on their way to jaieslamer, a journey which would take them days. The general atmosphere was nice, people were friendly and listening to drums playing at night whilst watching the locals ... read more

so we escaped from jaipur, the pink hectic city. We took our 4 hrs bus journey to a town where we had to get off and change buses for the last leg of the journey to Mandawa. We got on the 2nd bus and it soon filled up, but no sign of the driver. There we waited for atleast 30mins almost melting and surrounded by children who starred at us until the driver appeared. Then we were on our way to Mandawa. On arrival found a nice guesthouse reccomended by the lonely planet and that was where we stayed for a few days. From there we visited many havelis, its fort and its street markets. Dinner was under the stars on the rooftop restaurant. Peaceful with no cars hooting and slightly cleaner streets than in the ... read more

Left Agra early hours of the 18th Aug on a train at 05h10! i know most of you will be suprised at my early morning starts, but hey one has to do what one has to do! especially here in India where everyone is up at the crack of dawn. My timetable has slightly changed. 4.5hr train journey was ok, appart from burps and farts flying around and people eating their curried breakfast next to me so early in the morning, but the ac cabin in 2nd class was enough to keep me going till we arrived in Jaipur. Hit Jaipur and was taken to a small guesthouse by our drivers. Room was clean although basic. It had all we needed and most importantly it had a lovely fluorescent star covered ceiling which we found out ... read more

so just found a cool internet cafe where i thought i'd plot up and tell you what i've been up to for the past couple of days. By the way i mean cool as in fresh not cool as in trendy! ha ha An aircon place these days is the best! Anyway so monday 15th aug, we decided that as Diana was starting to feel slightly better from her delhi belly, we would get back on the road, so said goodbye to our yoga school friends and took our taxi to Haridwar, normally an hour away by taxi, but not that day. It took nearly 2hrs as we just hit major traffic jams, totally chaotic situation on the roads through the jungly road to this nearby town where the main bus station was. This by the ... read more

Asia » India » Uttarakhand » Rishikesh August 13th 2011

And so this is officially our last night in our little village of Ramsjoula near Rishikesh. Today has been another adventure to say the least and it is with great sadness that we leave the friends we have made here behind and continue on our journey, so back on the road tommorow, and what an adventure or mission that will be. The reason is because having tried to book train tickets 3 days ago to get back to Delhi and on to Agra, it was impossible as all the trains are over booked indian style so no way of getting any kind of seat, let alone a bunk bed for the night journey. Today i have to say has been another amazing experience, as we had the pleasure of meeting a lovely local at the little ... read more

Asia » India » Uttarakhand » Rishikesh August 10th 2011

Well i must say the last few days have been eventful to say the least. Sunday was our day of our usual yoga classes so we spent most of the morning visiting an Ashram in Haridwar, a town about an hour from where we are staying in Ramsjula near Rishikesh. It was interesting to see, but not that interesting as to what actually goes on in there. It is more like a community hall, where people go for free doctor consultations, eat very low priced canteen style meals and practise yoga, as well as lodging there. Anyway the point is that we crossed paths again with some lovely people, had some laughs, took some pictures and then headed back to our little town. Once almost back is when the mission started of actually trying to get ... read more

Left Delhi early yesterday morning by road to take the supposed to be 6hr route to Rishikesh. It did however end up taking 8 hrs instead and the journey was hot, dusty, noisy from all the traffic on the road but a real experience. Our driver was very sweet and ot us there safe and sound which is the main thing. Diana and I settled in to our little room at the yoga school and we were happy that although it is very basic, it has all that is absolutely necessary for us these days! Here in Rishikesh it is much calmer than in Delhi, although everyone always seems to be busy doing stuff and the locals are lovely, lots of big smiles and lovely welcoming people. We pop over the bridge across the ganges most ... read more

Asia August 3rd 2011

So after a very nice flight from London, most of which i was lucky enough to be horizontal, i landed in Delhi this morning just in time for the rush hour. The taxi journey from the airport to my hotel was not only hair raising but an eye opener, as the traffic was coming from all directions, everyone taking their own priority and pulling out as they wish, half the traffic lights when there were some weren't working and not to mention the overtaking going on from both inside and outside lanes. And i thought driving in Rome or London was mad for 4 or 5 lane traffic. Its the same here except with no rules on the road, or atleast no one obides by the rules. Anyway, after a little nap and a shower to ... read more
