Itchy Feet

My name is Nina and I recently finished a degree in Translation. As part of my course I studied abroad for a year, so my earlier blogs are set in Spain, the first place I went to. They concern settling down to live in a new country. Unfortunately I stopped writing blogs by the time I made it to Germany, probably because I was working full time there and not doing many touristy things.

However, here I am now, finished with Uni and itching to get flying somewhere new. Next stops: Singapore and Australia!!!

Hey everyone! Sorry this blog is very late. It is just a quick entry about a trip I took with ADEIS (Asociación De Estudiantes Internacionales Salamanca) to Barcelona from the weekend of the 9th-12th of October. Although the trip was brilliant, I would never recommend travelling from Salamanca to Barcelona by coach, no matter how much more affordable it seems. Honestly it's not worth it. As you can see from the map it is basically the other side of the country, and was a 10 hour coach journey. Since we left at midnight on the Friday, and it is damn near impossible to get a good night sleep when you keep jerking awake everytime your head slips to the side, we were knackered when we made it to the Hostel at around 10am. Some sensible people ... read more

Hey everyone, So i haven't written in a few days, pretty much just been getting settled in my flat, getting shopping in and figuring out how to use the washing machine and such things. So we didn't go out on saturday night, which sounds like it might have been the main night for fiesta, but our housemates did. Leaving at around 11 at night and gettting back around 7am. Sounds like a good night! Sunday in the evening we went to the Plaza Mayor to listen to some music and a quick to our Irish bar. The music was 3 girls dressed in 60s dress singing in English, which is quite odd because a) sometimes they pronounced things funny and b) I wonder how many people in the audience actually spoke english. Probably more than i ... read more

Hola amigos! So today we (kind of) moved in to our new apartment con Ricardo y Sergio. Its very nice and we have nice big rooms and our own bathroom. However as our rooms still need to be painted we are still living out of our suitcase for the day. We mosied around town today, staying away from the apartment as the paint was supposed to come (but never did). We are right next to the river and on the way into town have a gorgeous view of the river, cathedral and petshop with some v. adorable turtles and hamsters in the window (muy importante). It's the start of the fiestas so lots of people were around town and there was a procession in the Plaza Mayor, culminating in a speech by someone famous. We believe ... read more

Hola! Today was a lazy day. Slept in, did some tourist things involving taking about a million photos of the catedral nueva. The Catedral nueva was gorgeous inside with a really high ceiling and lots of religios artwork, that you would expect in a cathedral. Only a handful of people were exploring at the same times as us including a french tour group, but that could be as it coming toward the end of tourist season, end of summer. I fully recommend seeing La Catedral Nueva, and it's free to get in so you can't really waste your money. The only thing i have against it is that a certain depiction of Christ claims to have been created in the 16th Century but looks like plastic. I don't understand why he is standing on a bed ... read more

Hola amigos! Today was an exploration day as we walked to the University through the Plaza Mayor and then further afield in search of a more permanent residence. It was a lot busier today, probably as it's not a weekend. As we neared the University we started noticing lots of student looking people with folders that gave us hope we were going in the right direction, but also lots of tourists. The building we were looking for was right opposite a gorgeous Cathedral, which unfortunately I did not photograph, but I will explore this place at a later date and take plenty of photos. Walking through the streets I really love the whole style of it, the atmosphere and how different it is to England. For example, many buildings have these black doors and windows with ... read more

Hey everyone! It's Sunday morning and I arrived in Salamanca after a veeeeery long journey yesterday that involved waking up at 4:30 AM, not being able to find the bus stop at Madrid-Brajas Aeropuerto and getting lost for an hour trying to find our hostel from the bus station in Salamanca - a 10 minute walk away according to google maps - during which time the wheel on my overweight suitcase decided to stop working and it was like dragging a dead weight around. On the plus side it will go far to toning my arms up! People were very friendly and a couple of times even offered us directions without even being asked. The bus ride from Madrid to Salamanca was fine, the bus seemed really posh with its leather seats and million little knick-knacks ... read more
